Acting my age,according to who exactly?

Here's the thing, if I followed society's expectations. I would be living in a house with my girls, doing a nine to five job, basically slaving away. Where my days, are not my own, where my life is not my own. Where I am more of a servant to society, some one who stays in line, a lovely law abiding citizen, who has complete faith in the government and our health system. At 47, society expects you to be serious, to be presentable, to be obedient,

But that is not me, I'm a wild one I am. I do not like to be put in any boxes, or be to follow on in someone else's shoes. I'm all about tuning in and following my own life path. I'm a road less travelled kind of gal. I always want to know what is over that hill, or round the corner. I've always had a lot of explorer blood in me, which has led me far on my travels.

I'm in the final months of my 47th year on this lovely planet and I still love to climb trees and boulders. I'm up for tackling most mountains, when I am out walking. I also still enjoy rolling down hills, you got to have fun in life. I like to think that I know myself quite well now. I know what my body needs, and my mind. Let's be honest they are all the one really. Dancing is one of my medicines. I will be first one on the dance floor and one of the last to leave. I still have a few hours of dance in me.

I find it crazy really, that we are expected to act a certain way, because of our age. But that also depends on where you are living. I am lucky that where I live, no one really cares how you behave, as long as you are not hurting anyone, including yourself. There are quite a few folk here, that are still very in touch with their inner child, their playful side.

I'm a bit fan of play, for my kids for me, for my community. If you are serious about improving your health, then you should also be serious about play. About continuing to use your body and mind in playful ways. That's what really keeps you healthy. Taking the time to skip a little, every now and again. To go down a slide, to climb a tree.

So do I feel older or younger than my 47 years?
What can I say, I feel pretty good. I do feel like I have lived 47 years, at the end of the day though, I have only experienced 47 summers, which is not a lot really. I don't consider myself to be old, not in the sense that my teenager daughters see me. I like to see myself as 47 years young not old. I have no problems with getting older, I just think it's important to remember where we have come from and to enjoy our lives.

Lets not get too comfortable, remember to keep the adventures coming, no matter how small. To take a skip, jump and a hop sometimes.
