Finally Harvested What We Planted: The Beautiful Gabi in the Backyard Ft. Paksiw na Gabi (Taro)

in HiveGarden7 days ago

Mama's garden really is so helpful to us, if we can't buy vegetables in the market because it's expensive she'll just harvest some in the garden. It's mostly just Malunggay, Sweet Potato Leaves and Alugbati, but these tree are healthiest too, they're green leafy vegetables. One tie of sweet potato leaves in the market is already 10 pesos while alugbati is 15 pesos. We always buy two tie of each so imagine how much we can save. Having even a few of them in the yard can make a big difference ♪┌|∵|┘♪

So, yesterday, Mama asked me if I want vegetable dish for lunch. She asked in the right moment because I am too lazy to go outside yesterday, I didn't visit the market yesterday because I am also not feeling well. So I said I want some when Mama asked me. We actually have sauteed chayote with chicken at home but the taste is too bland. It's for Mommy F, but I cooked a lot. In my head i'll just eat it even if its too bland. But after hearing Mama that she cooked vegetable dish, I got excited coz finally, I can eat something else that is not bland. Lol

What she made yesterday is a simple Paksiw na Gabi or Taro. It's sour because it has vinegar, and I am just craving for this kind of dish. I couldn't take a photo of the dish but it was harvested in the backyard.

Seriously, they are growing so fast. They are still small the last time I check but now they can be harvested as well. Ah, Mama only cook it's leaves and the stems, but not it's root yet.

And next to the Taro plant was this chili in full bloom of red. Look how much chili it has now. Mama's not sure yet what to do with them. But she might make a special dip with vinegar, ginger, pepper and garlic with these. We can use that to dip any fried or dried dish, like fried fish or smoked fish. They're the best with that special vinegar dip.

Anyways, this is how it is when you have a small garden at home. In times of need, you can always rely on what you have in your yard.

What we have in our yard is still small, there's not much in it but it can surely save one hungry stomach. UwU. And they are always healthy especially it was from our own yard.

Ahhhh, let me also share this one, we don't have coconut tree anymore but there's a lot in our neighbor. And there are times that they just fall in the small stream in our backyard so Mama will pick them up. I mean, who will if she didn't do that?. It's not like there are people who watch this area here. So yeah, thanks to those trees we have a source of coconut as well, you know, coconut milk is really good in me dishes. UwU

Your mama’s garden is a blessing sis! Fresh veggies at home help save money and your mama will be healthier too. The red chilies look perfect for a delicious homemade dip. 😍

Truly a blessing, sana nga madagdagan pa namim. For now may new plants kami more on Okra though they are scattered and we also have two new papaya. Malalaki na. Sarao sa tinola or as fruits hihi.

that so yummt it so good also that perfect for paksiw

Really perfect yes, I eat lots of rice thanks to it. Haha

Wow mukhang msarap yan ahh 😊☺️

Masarap, sad wala nga Kong photo eh

That’s true, sis vegetables around us are really important. You can just pick some and you already have something to eat. When there’s no other dish, I just fry an egg and add some malungay leaves that already makes a nice soup.

Rightttt, thats why it's the best if magtanimn tanim sa free spaces sa likod bahay. Super laking tulong talaga kapag may ganyan ka. Egg with malunggay is very healthy ha.

Tama talaga need natin ng mga gulay para hindi na bibili pa.

Sarap ng malunggay lalo sa tinolang manok, hehe. And I haven't tried paksiw na Gabi ah. It's always ginataang gabi dito sa amin. I agree also having a garden at home is a great way of sustaining life. It just not cut our grocery cost, it also helps keep us healthy and safe eat chemical free veggies and fruits unlike those we find in the market. More veggies to plant, grow and harvest!

Tunay, bukod da dahon ng sili, the best talaga malunggay coz beri healthy. Legit yang chemical free veggies kapag sa bahay, though may kalaban ka din talaga na mga works. But di din naman ganoon kalala.

same here. hindi man madami, pero at least may napag kukunan

True madam, kahit ilang klasing gulay lang keri na. Sad nga wala na yong kalabasa namim, namatay agad, same sa tomatoes kaya tatanim nalanh ulit

Oh this is delicious! One of my favorites. Its really worth the wait and the hardwork sis.

You already tried paksiw na gabi?

I really love this dish, promise hehe, specially with the pepper and you can some slice of meat. Hooooh! Yummmy! By the way Your mother's garden is really priceless. Its a big help for you and your family because they are all healthy and organic. They are a big help for health specially old ones. You can also save money from buying it on the market and you can also save time instead of going to the market to buy, you can just go out on the backyard and pick some of them. It is a blessing for us to have a backyard to plant those green vegetables so we can have it freely and fresh. Thanks for sharing your Mama's green and nutritious plants.
