En una bucólica aldea de montaña denominada Trevelin, cohabitan descendientes de galeses, indígenas y otros migrantes de diferentes partes del mundo que han sabido construir un lugar pintoresco y lleno de paz siempre dispuesto a recibir al turismo y asombrarlo con sus paisajes maravillosos.
En ese lugar alejado del ruido de las grandes ciudades y emplazado en el Valle 16 de Octubre se pueden encontrar diversas atracciones naturales y también otras construidas por el hombre. Una de ellas y seguramente de las más significativas es el campo de tulipanes que se encuentra en el campo de la familia Ledesma-Hugues.
Esta tradicional familia lleva en la Argentina 4 generaciones de descendientes de los primeros colonos galeses que se animaron a cruzar el Atlántico en busca de un futuro prometedor y arribaron a las costas de Chubut a mediados del siglo XIX.
Los Lago Hughes fueron la primera generación de argentinos nacidos de padres llegados en el velero Mimosa en el año 1865 y se afincaron en estos campos comprando la chacha más de 100 años atrás con el objetivo de plantar y cosechar trigo. Juan Carlos Ledesma, bisnieto de aquellos primeros colonos, comenzó la siembra de tulipanes 27 años atrás.
En los últimos tiempos el campo de tulipanes se ha convertido en una gran atracción turística que convoca viajeros de todas partes de la Argentina y de diferentes partes del mundo, durante todo el mes de octubre y primeros días de noviembre de cada año, el campo se encuentra en todo su esplendor y puede ser visitado a pie o contratar alguna excursión en globo o en avioneta.
Luego de la primera semana de noviembre, se realiza una tradicional fiesta de suelta de pétalos que dura dos días, uno sobre el propio campo y otro sobre la plaza principal de Trevelin. Luego los bulbos son cuidadosamente recogidos para ser exportados a diferentes países del mundo.
El campo cuenta además con un sector interpretativo, varios locales gastronómicos y comerciales, y exposición y venta de artesanías; comodidades que permiten extender la excursión a todo el día si así lo desean los visitantes.
La variedad de colores y versiones de tulipanes sorprende y asombra, grandes extensiones de prolijas bandas de flores de un mismo color provocan una sensación multicolor, similar a lo que sería ver un arco iris sobre el suelo. Todo enmarcado por montañas nevadas y valles verdes y explendorosos, con suerte, se pueden divisar cóndores planeando sobre el valle haciendo su ritual ancestral.
Una experiencia alucinante que invita a volver el próximo año.
Tulip Field
In the bucolic mountain village of Trevelin, descendants of Welsh settlers, indigenous people, and other migrants from around the world have created a picturesque and peaceful place, always ready to welcome tourists and amaze them with its breathtaking landscapes.
In this place, far removed from the noise of big cities and nestled in the 16th of October Valley, you can find a variety of natural attractions as well as many man-made ones. One of the most significant is the tulip field located on the Ledesma-Hugues family's land.
This traditional family has been in Argentina for four generations, descended from the first Welsh settlers who dared to cross the Atlantic in search of a promising future and arrived on the shores of Chubut in the mid-19th century.
The Lago Hughes family was the first generation of Argentinians born to parents who arrived on the sailing ship Mimosa in 1865 and settled in these fields, purchasing the land over 100 years ago with the goal of planting and harvesting wheat. Juan Carlos Ledesma, great-grandson of those first settlers, began planting tulips 27 years ago.
In recent times, the tulip fields have become a major tourist attraction, drawing travelers from all over Argentina and around the world. Throughout October and the first days of November each year, the fields are in full bloom and can be visited on foot or by booking a hot air balloon or small plane tour.
After the first week of November, a traditional petal-releasing festival takes place over two days, one in the fields themselves and the other in the main square of Trevelin. The bulbs are then carefully harvested for export to various countries around the world.
The grounds also feature an interpretive area, several restaurants and shops, and an exhibition and sale of handicrafts; amenities that allow visitors to extend their excursion to a full day if they wish.
The variety of colors and shades of tulips is surprising; vast expanses of neat bands of flowers in a single color create a multicolored sensation, similar to seeing a rainbow on the ground. All framed by snow-capped mountains and lush green valleys, with luck, you might spot condors soaring above the valley, performing their ancestral ritual.
A breathtaking experience that makes you want to return next year.

Ha sido toda una sorpresa para mí descubrir este campo de tulipanes en la Patagonia. Resulta que asocio esta flor con Holanda, así que me he imaginado que había llegado hasta allí a través de algún migrante de ese país. Lo del origen por una familia de Gales me ha descolocado por completo, jaja. Otra cosa que me ha encantado es que hasta ahora solo había visto campos de tulipanes muy extensos pero sin ninguna montaña de fondo, ya que los Países Bajos tienen su nombre por lo que son, tierras por debajo de la cota del mar. Las instantáneas que nos compartes con las montañas nevadas al fondo son increíblemente bonitas. ¡La última es espectacular! Gracias por traernos esta belleza.

Aquí en Trevelin es una flor muy popular, se la puede ver en varios jardines y patios, incluso en los colegios, quizás influenciados por este emprendimiento tan particular y hermoso.

With the mountain in the back and colorful tulip field it looks magical.
Interesting to hear that here tulips bloom in October and November. And if I read correctly the height of the field is 2051 meters. Air must be nice here.
