The past few years have been a bit different for @mrsbozz and I when it comes to the holidays. It's a bit interesting when you don't have kids. I can remember a few Christmases in the past where we didn't put a tree up until the week before Christmas. The year our basement flooded I don't think we put up a tree at all. As I said though, the past couple of years have been a bit different. The early dark has been impacting my wife more than I can remember, so we have been putting our lights and decorations up a bit earlier to add some "warmth".

This holiday season seems a bit different in general to be honest. I think with all of the hype we had going into this year with the crypto markets, and then the ensuing disappointment, we are all looking for a bright spot to close out the year. I'm sure there are a number of people out there who played things right or had longs and shorts that made them a lot of money this year, but I think the majority of us were left still holding the bag...

You might remember a week or so ago I wrote a post about some moves I was making with my HIVE account. I recently received the goods that I purchased via my time here on HIVE. I am pretty happy with how it all turned out. This is the first time I can remember using my HIVE for something not chain related, so it was kind of a big deal for me.

The biggest purchase was probably my new Garmin watch. I saved up my HBD for a couple of weeks to pay for this new watch. I have a FitBit, but the battery is starting to go on it and it doesn't track my heart rate. The Garmin Forerunner 165 does track my heart rate, and honestly as I get older that is more important to me than tracking my steps.
I moved the HBD into HIVE and then I sent the HIVE to my BitPay wallet with the SwapSpace service. It was a bit nerve wrecking moving that much crypto, but I did some small test transactions first and everything went well.

Now I need to just spend some time learning all the ins and outs of my new watch. Garmin has a wide range of smart watches available. This one is actually towards the bottom of the lineup. @mrsbozz had gotten the Forerunner 55 a while ago, and I liked what I saw, so it helped make my decision easier. I had been looking at the Pixel watch, but the battery life on a lot of those is horrible (like one day). I didn't want something I had to charge every night, so the Forerunner 165 with it's 11 day battery life felt like a better fit.
Of course @mrsbozz was a little annoyed that I had to get the model above hers, but I think she will recover!

I also used a bit of my HIVE to purchase a few pieces of silver from a fellow HIVE member. Since I had never dealt with this person before I sent half of the HIVE to them and then when I received the pieces I sent the other half. I'll share all the pieces eventually, but the first was this Canadian Maple Leaf from 2023. It's a 1 oz round that is .9999 pure silver.
With the price of silver pushing close to $70 per ounce, this felt like a really good time to move some of my hard earned HIVE into something a bit more tangible. I already have a different Maple Leaf, but I really like how this piece has the ridges in the background. It makes everything else just "pop" a little more.
I apologize that first photo isn't very clear!

I also picked up some new disc golf discs as I mentioned in my @bozz.sports post yesterday. I didn't pay for them with HIVE, but it turns out I could have. I didn't realize it at the time, but the site where I buy my discs, 1010discs takes crypto as a payment form. I think we are going to start seeing that more and more in the future.
My NuScale stock that I have been really bullish on the past couple of years is still having a bit of a hard time. I noticed the other day it is about half the price of the all time high, but still twice the price I paid per share. NuScale has recently done some restructuring and the fact that they still haven't turned a profit isn't helping them. That seems to be the case for a lot of these small modular nuclear reactor stocks right now though. I think the important thing to remember is that NuScale already has the regulatory approval that some of these other companies do not.
I got a private message on Facebook the other day from an organization claiming to be NuScale that wanted me to join their WhatsApp group that discussed trading stuff. Which seemed totally sketch given NuScale is a nuclear power company. So I blocked the user and considered the fact that if people are impersonating them hoping to scam someone, that might mean they have actually gone mainstream. That's the way I am going to look at it anyway!
Finally, in the future I am going to be making some more moves with HIVE. Since everything is all public on the chain, I hope no one questions my commitment to this chain or how much I believe in the technology and the people who make it what it is.

Nice Maple's and a nice new watch. That's awesome! How are you enjoying the watch so far?
It's taking a bit to get used to it. It's a bit bigger than my old FitBit and it has been a while since I wore an actual watch. It seems my heart rate is pretty good so far though, so I am happy about that.

Nice watch, it has been years since I wore a watch...

On the bright side gas prices are coming down, this is a rare under $100 fill up at Costco for me :)
I haven't worn a watch in a long time either. It's going to take me a bit to get used to this. Our gas is $2.75 per gallon last I checked :) You could probably afford a really nice place on one of the great lakes if you ever thought about moving! :)
I think we are firmly attached to Pacific Northwest...
Congrats on the Garmin. I know many use it and it used to have a good reputation. Most likely they have kept up the good work but I haven't followed the developments for ages. Anyway, it feels good to finally buy something with your HIVE. I bought a drawing tablet this year.
About HIVE's evolution, this is definitely not what anyone have expected, but it is what it is, we gave to deal with what we get. Cycles are not the same anymore.
No cycles certainly aren't the same. It's a bit mind numbing! I'm liking the Garmin so far. I gave it a good run through today on the treadmill for the first time. I like all the data it gives you. They have so many models and I am not really sure what the $600 one gives you that the $200 one doesn't.
It depends on what you're expecting from it as well. If you're tracking your performance regularly and really need accurate data, then yes, but I see so many have the latest edition of a gadget and don't use half of the features, because they don't need it. Anyway, you'll figure it out in a week or two and see. Enjoy :)
Yes, that is true. It also looks like they use some pretty high end materials in the more expensive models.
My Christmas gift to myself this year is a brand new pc, built with the help of my roommate 😍 Having a friend that knows how to build pcs lets you save a lot of money, buying single components when they're on discount and saving on labor.
Luckily I'm not a pro player and to do some music production I don't need an overpowered pc so I managed to stay around 1k Euros, less than my actual MSI laptop
That's awesome. Getting a new computer is always a lot of fun! Congrats! My second PC I built myself and I have built countless others since then.
Ah... wonderful to be treating yourself and @mrsbozz for Christmas... and using your Hive money!!! Well-done!!!

I do see crypto as a saving account to afford some things without having to get it from the real world account.
For the NFL trip I did sell 0.01 BTC when it was at 99k.
For me that the real use of crypto.
Didn’t see any stores here in Belgium who do accept crypto but it could be that I am not paying an attention to that.
The problem for me is that I just don't have that much crypto. I'd love to be able to take a trip off my earnings, but it's all either locked up, or sitting at a worthless price right now!
Well we all have shitcoins in our wallet. Those were the miss.
I do have a decent amount, but none of them except TRX are locked.
Enjoy the new watch. I've been really happy with my Garmin. I've had it a few years and it's still working fine. I was saying to someone this week that we need to talk more about ways to get funds in and out of Hive as some people have limited options.
We don't go too big on Christmas decorations and don't have anything up yet. I've seen houses near us have theirs for over a week already.
It's tougher in the US than it is in other areas I think. We have Binance, but Binance US doesn't have access to HIVE like the main Binance site does. I ordered a screen protector for my watch last night to help protect the face. We don't go crazy for Christmas either. We have a few small decorations that we put out each year.
I have a protector on my watch as it did pick up a scratch. The more expensive models may be more robust, but I cannot justify the extra cost of those.
Yeah, no kidding. If I was going to spend $500 on a watch I would be getting a nice Seiko or Citizen dress watch.
Happy to know that you gain a blessing using a hive, I was motivated to do a blog for the purpose we have a lot to get here, one thing is to improve writing skills and so on the Hive community is very helping.
Hive is a great community if you can look past all the negativity!
