LIFE CHANGES: Menopause, Wellness, and Talking About Breast Cancer.

There is something so personal about the changes we go through as women, like menopause. It is like a quiet shift in our bodies, signaling a new chapter. It is not a villain, it is just life unfolding. Menopause is when our periods say goodbye for good, Confirmed after twelve months without one.

The Journey Unfolds in Phases or stages
This stages include:
Perimenopause: Think of it like the winds of change starting to blow. Periods get unpredictable, bodies adjust. It is a transition, sometimes gentle, sometimes with it own twists.
Menopause : That moment when we have crossed a year without those monthly visits, a milestone.
Postmenopause : Life flows into a new normal, This is the stage after monopause.

What we might feel when menopause is about start:
Hormones do their dance, sometimes bringing irregular periods, vaginal dryness, night sweats that surprise us, sleep that is elusive, moods that swing like harmattan winds. It is different for each of us.
Age and Timing:
For many women, menopause whispers its arrival somewhere between 45-55.

Staying Well Matters
Seeing our healthcare folks is like having trusted friends along the way, before, during, after menopause. If you bleed after menopause, don't wait, reach out pronto. Wellness visits are like checking in with ourselves.

A Personal Trigger
I recall hearing about a lady in my neighborhood who passed away from breast cancer. It shook me, made me want to dig deeper, how can we be proactive? Breast cancer is like an unwelcome growth in breast tissue.
Symptoms: A lump, breast shape changes, skin like orange peel, nipple surprises.
Factors : Age plays a part, genes whisper secrets, family stories matter. Lifestyle bits like alcohol, smoking talk to our risk.
Cure: Early stage breast cancer can be cured with surgery, often followed by other treatments like radiation, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy. Advanced breast cancer is less curable, but treatments can slow growth, relieve symptoms, and prolong life. Treatment plans are individualized based on the cancer's stage, growth rate, and hormone sensitivity.
