Every time I’m tired, I look for a place that is quiet and cool. And this time, I stopped by Tiny Coffee located at 169 Nguyen Ngoc Vu – this is a familiar stop but never boring to me.
As soon as I stepped into the yard of Tiny cafe, I felt relieved. The yard is wide, paved with old red bricks, with green trees on both sides, occasionally dotted with small flower pots like a yard at grandma’s house in the countryside.
Inside the shop is a vintage space mixed with a bit of retro, mainly wooden furniture, dark brown color, tables and chairs are sparsely arranged so everyone can have their own space. On the bookshelf are many books – not only for decoration but you can sit and read comfortably. I see most people coming here to work, so the space is very quiet. It seems that few groups of friends choose this place to chat noisily, the space is very suitable for those who are introverted, quiet and need a quiet space to work and enjoy cups of tea.
The cutest thing is the brown cat of the shop, a lazy and calm cat, lying sprawled on a wooden chair. It seems to be used to being petted by guests, just lying still, it is very obedient and lovely.
I ordered:
- Oolong milk tea: the tea is quite strong, clearly fragrant with oolong, not bland. Milk mixed into tea is also delicious, the tea cup has a light brown color, drinks cold, sweet and light – the kind of taste that one sip makes you feel awake.
- Matcha milk tea, is a combination of fresh milk, tea, condensed milk, fat milk and matcha powder, this matcha powder is high-quality so it’s fragrant, not harsh or nauseating like cheap matcha powders, if you feel the matcha milk tea cup tastes bad, it's because you drank the wrong bad cup, if mixed correctly like at Tiny cafe, this matcha tea cup is very delicious and I want to order more cups to take home.
However, the price of drinks ranges from 30k – 60k (1.2 – 2.3 dollars), not including topping. With the average income here, this price is a bit “expensive” if you just order a simple cup without anything extra. If you are a topping fan then you need to pay extra.
Tiny is not a cafe for those who need strong wifi, loud music or “luxury” Instagram check-ins. It is a place where you sit down, order a cup of tea, read a book, pet a cat, listen to some relaxing music, and feel everything slow down a bit.
Tiny cafe has 13 locations but each one retains a gentle and peaceful soul, the highlight is books and quiet space. Particularly the Nguyen Ngoc Vu branch, it has something very “homely”, very familiar that makes customers feel comfortable.
