No Dopamine

Do you guys ever wonder why "crypto twitter" is all about memecoins, rugpulls, margin longs, vc money, etc?

We're addicted to quick dopamine hits and instant gratification. We've been programmed this way ever since private companies run social media platforms built on the premises of casino psychology.

Ofc by we I don't mean everyone and without algo's, fake activity/views and platforms "wanting/needing" us to continue being here, we're not affected the same.

When your investment is just "there" and ready to be sent out at any time anywhere there's a high risk people sit there jerking their knees wanting it to go higher, be bigger or do more with it than just wait for price changes. Can't even begin to imagine what they must feel like when they're under like many may be now with alt coins.

Now sure, we're also down with Hive (if you happen to be one of the very few who bought in at the very small window when it pumped and powered up your stack rather than keeping it on exchanges - which most do), but that may just mean that we don't have too much lower to go. Most of us here are not "down" per se. I assume most whales here have done well elsewhere too, so they're not really in a rush to sell of their coins "at any price" like some earning minnows may have to or people who receive sudden costs that force them to liquidate.

Our token just works differently. It introduced authors to the financial side of hive from the get-go, as soon as you earn your first author rewards you get half of your rewards in stake and get to learn about voting and curation rewards. The unstaking period also gives you enough time to think things over and in worst case to recover your account in case a hacker changes your keys. Something that many top crypto currencies still lack and such feature built on-chain.

Yes, we may get some dopamine when we first get here and we start getting our first big votes (big in terms of hivepower cause who are we kidding at these prices). We may get some dopamine when a big user follows us, when we run into amazing content, when we get some fun comments or replies to ours. Over time our experienced users I don't think get much dopamine from rewards any longer. It is not the same to web2 social and rest of crypto.

There they don't chase votes and potentially more consistent support, they chase the "get-rich-quick" schemes that often leave them starting from 0 again and waiting for the next paycheck to throw at the newest trend.

They don't show accountability and reputation when it comes to investing in new tokens on said networks because everyone can create millions of wallets instantly at no fee so they can fake whatever activity they want to trick you into thinking this is the next unicorn investment.

We're not the same and hive is therefore not for everyone, but I think that's a good thing and I'm looking forward to people who are tired of the daily struggles and gambling to join us eventually and relax a bit and put their coins to work and do some good with them rather than just aim to get more fiat than their neighbors.

Okay Hot Take that may not be the most popular opinion..

I think we don't get the Doapmine hit from Hive (like you said except that first big payout or post or first whale follower) and that is party WHY I like it. People are here to earn Hive and various crypto sure, but I think at least what keeps so many people here are a few reasons not related to earning $$ or the like..

  • You CAN build real connections with people on Hive by interacting with posts and authors. I have already found a few new friends on Hive that I now interact with daily on my Discord. Also I found an OLD friend from Publish0x years ago that I connected with here on Hive!
  • Most crypto blogging sites are all articles about crypto and while that is fine that isn't for everyone. Here on Hive there are communities around artwork, photography, staying active, etc etc. You can find your niche here and use it as a social media with the added bonus of earning crypto. But it doesn't HAVE to be crypto first.
  • There are passive ways to earn Hive and put your Hive to work which is awesome but there also isn't a way to pump/dump or get rich quick which I think keeps a lot of the big X named people away from Hive and thus we don't get that negative publicity and shit which is GOOD for us in the long run because people here are committed.

So yeah I am kind of glad there isn't too much dopamine here for just bloggin and interacting because I think it leads people to chase that high and then produce subpar articles and interactions.

BUT there is always fun games to play where you can chase that rush and hope to pull Legendary items and what not ;)

I think it is wise to have exposure to Hive and other crypto currencies. The argument against Hive that my wife brought up is that it is too isolated from the rest of the crypto and financial markets and it is an old coin with a very small user base.

I do hope that one day we do get more integrated with centralized exchanges in USA such as Coinbase so that there is an easy on and off ramps into Hive. Right now people think there are too many hoops to jump to get into Hive.

I've always been fully aware of how lucky I am to have a full time job so that HIVE can be more of a hobby for me. It gives me the freedom to actually enjoy the platform and not look at it as some life or death thing. I can't imagine how stressful that would be.

In the general case, for me to increase my Hive Stake it's more efficient for me to make money and purchase Hive than it is to generate Hive from posting. At some point in the future that could certainly change.

I hope it does eventually. I'd probably be buying more HIVE with fiat if there was a good on-ramp in the US.

Absolutely not down with hive, I'm heavy down with splinterlands lol, at least hive highly compensated that loss! Hive is for who has patience, it takes time to build up and such, you don't do like meme coins buy and hope in a pump and sell in few hours... the price of hive is not encouraging now but we will see over time how it goes in the next years

I don't have that much experince with sm compared to many on here, but I feel like Hive supports the long game more. Yes I def get excited from comments and upvotes(esp nice big ones) but the way engagement is designed encourages real connections more. Like the fact that I can reward folks with comment rewarder or eventually get a big enough upvote to reward other people with an upvote is awesome.

I do agree with another commenter that hive does feel kinda isolated from a lot of other crypto and if there were some way to change that it might make it more appealing. I have no idea how it works but I almost wonder if something like what publisox does where the crypto rewards aren't all the same chain. (I dont' actully know how it works) @cherokee4life knows about it more though.

Publish0x is different and they don't share ALL the insider info but they do either receive tokens from a project or obtain tokens I assume via ad revenue and then give each user the ability to upvote 6 articles per day and the tipper and the author both get rewards (the person who tips decides what percentage to give each).

Obviously the tips are super small. Like this is a Publish0x tip I just gave @pvmihalache on his article on Pulbish0x where it was split 50/50

That is 0.00000337 ETH or $0.009 currently and I get that and he got that.

But they do randomly switch up the tipping tokens to either a new project or I think something they got at a cheap price. But there is no real sense of community or engagement over there. People are there to either give/get tips or read news. Not to connect with people like on Hive

I'd like to follow you, I'm trying to focus on following only hive users, so we can create a "Hiver" support network there.

Now that you've written too. Would it be interesting for the hive to hide who voted? We only see the total value, number of positive and negative votes, but without knowing who voted, would that be interesting?

Yeah.. I've tasted both pies, and I can say the hive pie is to die for! Although, in most cases, it takes quite a lot of time for the dopamine hit here on hive

As a sort of newbie to the crypto world the "crypto twitter" is just not it, its just too much going on all at once. Hive is really straightforward, even for newbies, you post, you curate, you get rewarded, Simple!!! It is worth the time investment and i hope for me it will be all worth it in the future.

An educative insightful post. I hope to relax and build too..thanks for the encouragement sire
