🦉 The common chaffinch or simply the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

  • fringilla (lat.) - finch; fi nco (Old German), fi nc (Old English)
  • coelebs coelebs (lat.) - single, idle, unmarried

These birds are among the first to return, when there is still snow in the forest and the sun is only pretending to be warm. This happens at the very beginning of April, and very rarely at the end of March. But it is still worth saying that their arrival depends on the weather, and for example, 2 years ago the spring was late, and these birds finally arrived only in the 20th of April.

Having arrived, the males begin their concerts of easily recognizable songs, with which they mark their territories. And if someone dares to fly into their territory, a fight is inevitable.

Вот и начался апрель и зяблики к тебе прилетели :)
А ты знаток Old German и Old English?

Hello dear friend @ratel, good morning

What a beautiful bird! I didn't know this species marked its territory with its chirping. How great it is to learn something new. Thank you very much.

Have a wonderful weekend.
