🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
- Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
- major (lat.) big

If you hear a sharp "trrrrr-trrrrr!" in the forest, as if someone had launched a mini-hammer drill, then it is he, the Great Spotted Woodpecker. And he is not just knocking on a tree, he is looking for a mate.
I noticed that in spring these guys "work" lower than, for example, in autumn and winter. I mean the lower tier of the forest. That is, this is the most favorable time to observe them and photograph them.

At this time they also build their future homes. And in the second photo you can see this process.
