From hobby to hustle

While I was in school, I used to sell beaded earrings and necklaces. The business actually started like a play, play . One day, I made a beautiful necklace for myself specially for an event . Then, a friend saw it and asked how much she would pay for me to make the same one for her. I asked her to buy the materials i would need to make it because I didn't want to charge her for it. After i finished hers, she was so happy with it that she came back with three more orders from her friends. That was how my bead making business began.

From making beads for my course mates, i started getting lots of sales, and before long, i was making and supplyig to some rich clients. The business taught me so many things I didn’t know I could learn.

However, along the line, my business faced some challenges. Some customers who were close friends and family started buying on credit. Because of the relationship, i didn’t want to say no, but that became one of the things that affected the business badly. Many of them didn’t pay back, and it slowly drained my business capital. It was a painful lesson, but I would still say the experience was a very good one for me. Through it all, I learned valuable lessons about sales, marketing, customer service, and the importance of separating friendship from business.

The business made life easier for me in school, i didn't struggle much financially because my parents were supportive so the extra money from the bead making business was for flexing.
