I put together a short six-part series outlining the similarities between the Sapien Loop books and stories and our own world. Sapien Loop is an imperfect reflection of our own world. Throughout our human history, the few have dominated and controlled the many. It has been done by force and manipulation. In Western societies, control by force became difficult and unsustainable. People’s values shifted away from obedience and towards equality. People believed that they should be given the right to choose their own leaders and not be at the mercy of dictators. They believed that the will of the people should prevail rather than the dictate of the few.
However, the ruling elite could never tolerate this. Therefore, they needed to create the illusion of self-rule. The chosen vehicle for this illusion was democracy (meaning people power). It has been lauded as an unquestionable foundation of any free society, and it must be upheld at all costs. The practice of democracy has been anything but ‘people power’. The Sapien Loop books and stories delve into how the few are able to manipulate the many into thinking they rule themselves.
The theory behind the mechanisms used to control the Sapiens (the main humanoid species in Sapey) is the same as the ones used to control humans. The outcomes are a little different, as events can transpire in many different ways. Sapia and Sapey are a greatly simplified version of our world and the countries in it. Given my intentions for the main storyline, a multi-country world would have made the storytelling too complicated. The complexities would have distracted from the key points I intended to make, and it would have hindered character development, which was tricky even in a simplified world.
Below are the links and short write-ups for each part of the series. I hope you enjoy the content, and I hope my analysis and breakdown add to your reading pleasure of the books and stories.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part One: Cycles and Loops
The main underlying theme of the Sapien Loop books and stories is civilisation and social cycle theories. Societies and possibly even civilisations go through cycles. They rise, they peak, and eventually they collapse. In the book ‘End of an Era’, Sapey appears to be at its peak. However, the events in the book cause things to rapidly change. This brings Sapey close to its complete destruction and possibly into its next loop. Our own world is rapidly heading towards collapse. The full extent of this collapse is yet to be felt. Part One compares how cycle theories appear to apply to the real world and how they have been played out in the books.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part Two: The Economy and Power Structures
People in Western countries have rejected absolute control by their leaders. They insist on self-rule. However, the leading elites will never allow this to actually happen. Therefore, they needed to create an illusion that would satisfy the people. Over time, they built the Establishment. I consider the Establishment to be made up of the Government, Big Business, Banks, Religious Institutions, and the media. Each of the five plays a critical role in controlling and manipulating the people. The first book, ‘End of an Era’, describes a power structure that is similar to but even more developed than our own Establishment. The power structure enables the ruling elite to control the entire Sapey economy; this is something our current structure falls short of but is getting closer to achieving. The implementation of digital IDs and Central Bank Digital Currency will be a huge step in that direction.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part Three: Family and Society
The family is the foundation of society. Historically, the growth of the family has been encouraged by leaders and the monotheist religions. It helped expand the population and perpetuate ideology. Support and encouragement for the family have declined in some cultures. This is noticeable in Western Christian and atheist cultures. Western Governments and media control information. The family has become a hindrance to this control. Therefore, it is gradually being broken down. Christianity is also no longer the preferred religion. It has lost its grip on dictating ideology. Islam is more conducive for authoritarian leadership if its practices are upheld and universal. In the Sapien Loop books and stories, family ties are weakened through the dividing of the family. Children attend day care, then school, and once graduated, they are pressured to leave their family to work in other regions.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part Four: Technology
The Sapien Loop books and stories are considered science fiction. Technology in ‘End of an Era’ is mostly ahead of our own. They have highly advanced virtual reality, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, blockchain, and energy. These technological advancements are important because these are some of the technologies that are advancing the fastest in our world. The Sapien Loop books and stories show how these technologies could be used as well as how they are preferred to be used. The books and stories cover the motivations for these technologies and how these motivations have changed over time. The main motivations in Sapien Loop and ours are profit and support for a political agenda. Whereas in the past, the motivations were more closely linked to making life better or more efficient.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part Five: Media and Propaganda
I consider media as one of the five pillars of the Establishment. It is briefly discussed in Part Two, but I wanted to explore it much deeper. Both Sapien Loop books and the short story ‘Let Me Entertain You’ cover the power of the media, entertainment, and sports. In both the books and in our world, media, entertainment, and sports leagues are monopolised by a handful of large companies. Lack of competition enables these companies to remain profitable without necessarily giving their traditional customers everything they want. This is because the customers have limited alternatives. This has enabled them to pursue other areas. Media and entertainment companies are as focused on political agendas as they are on entertainment. Sports leagues are as focused on entertainment and gambling as they are on the sport itself.
Sapien Loop and Our Own World – Part Six: How It All Ends
I strongly believe the Western world is heading for collapse. I am less certain about the extent of this collapse. Will we be able to rebuild it, or will it be destroyed beyond that? If it can be rebuilt, how and who will rebuild it? Will something better emerge, or will it be far worse? In the Sapien Loop books, Sapey collapses twice. The first collapse leads to the creation of the Sapiens and the elaborate system used to control them. The second collapse is more complicated and more closely resembles the collapse of our society. This collapse began as intentional but became out of hand when others, who opposed it, became involved. This led to the destruction of the Linap (the controlling species in the books). This ended the twelfth loop. The thirteenth loop begins in the second book and continues into the third book. Can Sapey be rebuilt? If so, who will rebuild it?
The Sapien Loop Series
I am writing a trilogy of books titled Sapien Loop. The first in the series is Sapien Loop: End of an Era and the second is Sapien Loop: Frozen in Time. I published both of these books as ebooks on Amazon, and I have posted completed chapters to my @captainhive account. I anticipate publishing the third book in early 2027. I expect to title this book Sapien Loop: Worlds Collide. In 2025, I plan to write short stories about some of the characters and their adventures. I will post these to my @captainhive over the course of the year.
Brief Summary of Sapien Loop: End of an Era

This story is based on the fictional planet Sapia and its sole country, Sapey. Sapey is portrayed as a form of utopia for all its citizens. No poverty. No war. Almost no crime. Opportunities for all.
This was enough for most citizens, but not all. In one of the small regions, some of the citizens had become discontent. They felt something important was missing in their lives. Their discontent did not go unnoticed. Some of the Sapey elite wanted to weaponise this discontent to gain more power. This created more chaos than they anticipated. This led to further widespread social unrest.
On top of the chaos, ambition and greed provoked another enemy. This enemy was on a mission to settle both new and old scores.
Brief Summary of Sapien Loop: Frozen in Time
This story is based six years after the original story. The Downs Region is still suffering from a serious health crisis caused by the contaminated water. The main characters are desperately trying to find a cure for the illness that has been caused by the water.
One of the main characters has discovered frozen humanoids in hidden chambers. It appears they have been frozen for a long time. These chambers connect to a vast network of tunnels. While exploring the tunnels, one of the frozen humanoids disappears. It appears he has been stolen.
The story takes a step back in time to tell the story of the frozen humanoids. How and why were they frozen? This part of the story also explains the fall of ancient Sapey and the birth of the Sapiens. Can those from the past be able to coexist with those from the present?
