While getting the boys to school yesterday morning I got treated to a nice view between the school and the farm.
The river valley does a wonderful job at building fog but it also seems first to lose it in the morning.
It gave more of a winter feel than fall.
I was SOOOO HAPPY to hear their screeches and cries from their nest. MY BALD EAGLES HAVE RETURNED! I love having them around but understand they need a vacation during the summer months. Now they will go about repairing their nest and prepping it for the winter ahead. If only they could haul the branches up that litter the ground beneath the nest it would make it that much faster but taking off from the ground to go straight up is not in an eagle's repertoire.
The fog burned off quickly and I got a nice semi warm and sunny day to work around the farm.
My mid day was taken by the deck. It was a mess and needed to be cleaned up. I got sections done at a time in between other tasks.
A bad wreck happened a couple miles up the highway and I went out to see if I could tell what it was but it was over the hump. I DID find that the pine needles are going to need the next days of sun to dry out after the rains. I need them for the garlic to cover for winter. So they will get raked into a pile and then hauled with the trailer.
There are barn spiders EVERYWHERE around the farm. This is the biggest of the 4 that live over our double slider onto the deck.
I got the deck organized and swept off so it's actually quite nice looking now.
I went to the garden and dug through the mass of squash plants to excavate all the acorn squash. Ended up at 42 pounds of them.
The last of the watermelons got picked and they were all smalls.
A couple of my leeks have scapes popping out that I want to leave to make seeds for me.
I also gathered the entire herpes plant (tomatillo) and drug it to the sheep pen. I am pretty sure I got all the little bastards but will have to scour for any left over... Awful garden herpes.
The fans got pulled from the greenhouse then I rolled down the side as the frosty temps are coming soon.
The farm is showing the fall colors all around. The chokecherry are really showing it and I am just waiting for the maples to really kick into colored gear. It looks like the elderberry are all about ready to be put in the freezer and will have to be gathered from the various bushes. I need to check on the rose hips which may be better after a freeze?? I will have to look that up.
I have to get the farm finished being ready for the frosts tomorrow morning which means dealing with the rest of the rows in the garden for things that can't freeze like the pumpkins, and the grapes will all have to be cut out and dealt with otherwise they will be mush on the vines.

Nice to see the bald eagles coming around they are very majestic birds!👍😊
We have had frosts this time of year before but this time I'm far better prepared.
I love the cool crisp mornings, so much nicer than 100° plus days, my friend!👍🤗
