Today, I visited Poolsbrook Country Park. There are usually many birds here, but I was surprised to see even more this morning. They were everywhere!
I decided to walk around the lake. I could see a cormorant in the middle, but it was too far away to get a decent photograph.
Fortunately, a heron was perched quite close to the water's edge. It would fly to different parts of the lake.
Local people bring buckets of bird food to the park most days. One woman allowed me to help feed the Canada geese. Surprisingly, I came away with all my fingers intact. It was good fun, though.
There was a brood of greylag geese near the car park with their goslings. One little one got a peck off one of its parents for stepping out of line.
The little ones spotted the people with the duck food and went running over to be fed, with their little wings flapping.
There were many doves and pigeons near the children's play area. You literally had to duck down if they took flight, as they would practically skim your head.
It was an interesting visit with lots to see. It is definitely a safe haven to bring up young ones.
