These days wealth has been an important indicator in determining the individual character. Money is important for people. It showcases their standards in the society and also it allows them live a good. But a person without enough money are simply sidelined and does not get any recognition. To laid emphasis on this aspect, Sanskrit comes up with following words ;
अर्थेन हीन पुरुषस्त्यजते मित्रबान्धवैः |
त्यक्तलोकक्रियाहारः परासुरिव निष्प्रभः||
Arthena heena purushastyajate mitrabaandhavaih.
Tyaktalokakriyaahaarah paraasuriva nishprabhha.
Arthena = of wealth.
Heena = without, not having.
Purushastyajate = purushah + tyajate. Purushah = a person.
Tyajate = abandon, leave.
Mitra = friend.
Bandhavaih = relatives.
Tyaktalokakriyaahaarah = Tyakta + loka + kriyaahaarah.
Tyakta = abandoned.
Loka = in ordinary life.
Kriyaahaara = activities.
Paraasuriva = paraasu + iva.
Paraasu = a dead or dying person.
Iva = like a.
Nishprabhah = lustreless, without any radiance.
i.e. Even friends and relatives abandon a poor person (they have no relations with him). Society also ostracizes him from other social functions, making such a poor person as inauspicious as a dead person.
If a person is without any wealth, his friends and relatives abandon him and he is forced to live a isolated life. The position of such person in society is lustreless like a dead person. This is in todays time money decides a person fate. If he has money he will get recognition, he does not have money he is nothing in the society.
