When Your Friends Keep Asking You "Should I Buy Bitcoin?" Eighteen Months after You Write a Whole Book Showing Them How...

I do not have it in me to start dropping phrases and hashtags like "Have Fun Staying Poor" -- HFSP -- or "Not Gonna Make It" -- NGMI -- on the posts of people who don't understand Bitcoin for the same reasons that I do not tell people to "Go to Hell!"

At heart, I am a Christian humanitarian. I want to see everyone possible blessed from here to eternity.

Yet I do recognize that there are things people are doing that do suggest that Hell is the proper place for them to be as they are for eternity, and, I also recognize that people are deselecting themselves from getting Bitcoin in any significant amount in time.

When I say "in time," I mean for people who only understand Bitcoin from USD terms, who don't know that Satoshis are readily available now, but they may be out of easy reach in a few years because governments and institutions are gobbling up all the Bitcoin that they can.

These are also people who are primarily consumers in mindset to whom investment is known, but not often acted upon successfully because of the life investment of working to support consumption and all that goes with that. That's most of my fellow U.S. citizens. I'm not knocking them. Among them are the vast majority of the people I have loved over the course of my life.

But I understand now why the dismissive hashtags HFSP and NGMI are put up now ... I understand the temptation. People mark themselves safe from local disasters on Web 2 to let people they care about know they survived and are safe -- it's a community signal. In like manner, HFSP and NGMI are indeed overstepping of a bound -- we cannot damn people to poverty and to not making it just because we are frustrated with them, for as human beings we do not have that right or power -- but they are also community signals that there's no point in spending further energy trying to convince a particular person about Bitcoin.

Ever wanted to throw your computer itself through your computer screen?

It happened to me last week in a virtual forum in which I was talking about state governments getting ready to get Bitcoin reserves. Someone stepped up and said, "So should I buy Bitcoin now?" I looked, and looked again, went through all the "Wait, what?" in my head, and also in my head said, "How many times have we discussed this in the last 18 months?"

I am a Christian. I don't do strip tease, so, since I was not going to take everything off that I had on to start throwing it, the nearest thing at hand was the computer itself.

And then it hit me ... resignation, and all its peace. If in 18 months anyone is still asking, it is just not for me to convince them. Even in USD terms, Bitcoin has quadrupled in value since early October 2023 and may well at least double again before this is all over ... it's not like what I predicted did not occur. I gave out a road map and the drive has gone pretty much as my studies suggested it would, with a few Trump Bumps for variety. The road map is not done ... there's still time ... but after eighteen months and not a single move made, what else could I do or say that will help? So I was able to be gentle in encouraging, and departed that conversation without creating hard feelings.

I am a Christian humanitarian at heart. I have two new phrases and hashtags to add to the discussion.
