They always know. I don't know how but they do. But they do.
When Kim was in the hospital the dogs were off. Restless and following me around the house more than usual. Staring at the door like they were waiting for her to walk through it. They knew something was wrong even if they couldn't understand what.
Dogs don't need words. They seem to read energy, your body language or shift in routine. They can sense stress you're carrying even when you think you're hiding it. You're not hiding it, not from them.
The whole week she was gone they were glued to me. Normally they split their time between us. Not that week, they stayed close. Like they were keeping watch or maybe they needed the comfort as much as I did.
When she finally came home this last Friday night they lost their minds. Not the usual excited greeting. Something more. Relief maybe. The pack was whole again. Everything was back where it belonged.
Now they follow her around. Careful and gentle. They know she's not 100%. They curl up near her but don't jump on her like they normally would. Somehow they understand she needs space and closeness at the same time.
I've had dogs my whole life. Every single one has had this ability. They feel what we feel. They carry some of the weight even when we don't ask them to.
People underestimate what pets do for us. They're not just animals in the house. They're family and they show up. They pay attention.
They give a damn!
I want to come back as my dog when I die. They've got life figured out better than most humans.
Anyone else notice their pets acting different when life gets hard?

Thanks for reading,
Joe

You never read my post about losing my Bailey girl a while back? Yeah, I love my dogs.
More than most people. :_)

I do apologize, I did read that, I am sure I commented as well. Sorry, bad day with pain and probably not 🤔 thinking straight. 🐕🐶🐾
Its okay, I understand. Hope you feel better soon.
My wife used to send me photos of our dog laying in the doorway waiting for me when I was gone to my conference each year. I miss sitting on the couch and having her jump up next to me and put her head on my leg. She didn't do that as much in her later years, but in her prime she did a lot.
Yeah,It sucks losing a fur babies. I still miss Bailey laying long ways with me on the recliner. Lilly our new dog is a good girl and all, but Bailey was real special. Best dog I ever had. That is Lilly in the picture. She is a loving dog and acts like you were gone forever when you just walked out the door 5 minutes before. She is so cute.
That sounds pretty perfect to me!
Every time I hear or read a story where there is a dog, the dog that saved my father's life comes to mind; He was in need, he was going to go up a hill and suddenly the dog ran into him, the next moment he fell on his side dead, a very poisonous snake had bitten him, that bite was for my father.
I always remember that, dogs know and I am always grateful.
That is a very sad, but enlightening story about the courageous nature of dogs.
I do love the doggo friends. Nadi (my dog) frequently can tell when I am feeling a bit down or am excited, even without me showing any emotion at all. There is some real magic in their behavior and I love them for it.
There is a magic in it, I agree.
I really admire how you care for your dog.
Unfortunately, where I come from, only few care for dogs as pet or something.
Most train them to eat them. I'm not ok with sure habits.
We use to have these dog call simber but was crushed by a car. I felt really bad.
Am wanting to get another one though.
Yeah, I am not about eating dogs. Not sure i could put up with that at all.
Yeah.
But to others around here, it's actually the Christmas meat.
Can't just watch my self eating a dog meat.
I might end up seeing it as a human being flesh
Your dog is your loyal friend.
Absolutely. Unconditional love.
They sure do. Our lil guy does the same thing. They are truly smart and feel for us, even when they don't say a thing.
Absolutely they do. Unconditional love.
