Pink Ball Dress for Elizabeth's First Birthday

When it comes to making dresses, making babies 1st birthday dress definitely tops my list of favorite things to sew, because it's a first to many more and you can't help but feel mesmerized at how much parents and loved ones look forward to this day like it's all their birthday, maybe it is, as birthing a child takes a lot from both parents and watching your child hit every milestone effortlessly and making it to the first year is surely worth the celebration.

Little Elizabeth will be clocking one on the 6th of June which also happens to be a Muslim celebration day and since her parents belong to both religions, her mum is a Christian while her dad is a Muslim, they decided to hold two celebrations, one was held yesterday in her mum's church, and we will be looking forward to the D-day.

I guess this decision was made last minute as her mum reached out to me on Thursday about wanting a pink ball dress for her little princess, and requested that I get all the materials needed, it can't be any other color o, she emphasized,

"The color of her cake will be pink and I want her dress to be pink as well"

I already had a sewing project in progress which was also kind of urgent and didn't know how I would manage as I couldn't turn down Elizabeth's mum either, thankful I had this leftover pink lace fabric from a previous dress I made sometime last year, now this is where keeping and not trashing all quality fabric comes in handy, I also had a pink colored crinoline of about 10 yards, considering the materials I has at home, I made a list of other materials needed, which included;

• Satin Fabric
• zipper
• Crinoline mesh
• rhinestones

With that, I set out to the fabric store and got all needed, though I didn't start making the dress until Saturday, making sure I was done with the work at hand.

It took me the whole of Saturday to get this dress completed and delivered, I'm amazed I pulled through.

Cutting And Sewing Process

• I started by drafting the upper side of the dress, using a one-year-old bodice measurement, though a two-year-old can still wear this size.

• Next, I turned it with its lining fabric pattern piece and also sewed the side after attaching a side belt.

• For the lower part of the dress, I used about 5 yards of tulle cut into four different lengths, as they will be in steps

• Then I sewed the crinoline at the edge of two cut-out tulle, before gathering them

• I also gathered the remaining two cut-out tulles together and sewed all to the upper side of the dress

• For the sleeves, I gathered the tulle to form an off-the-shoulder sleeve and also gummed the rhinestones to the neckline and front waist.

• giving it a finishing touch, I placed a bold-looking now at the back and a cute little one at the front and also sewed in a zipper to close the back.

And that completes the making process of this beautiful 1st birthday ball dress for Elizabeth.
