Hello Hive

Happy weekend to my friends on-chain. It is always a pleasure to share with you my creative DIY process.

This one particularly made me feel confident and beautiful; I can't remember when last I felt so good about my sewing. Recently I have received so many compliments from my just-concluded projects, where I made 5 outfits for my neighbor's baby when she clocked one year.

I appreciate that when people see my handmade craft now, they find it so attractive and even recommend me to other clients. Just this morning I won myself a new customer who has brought some fabrics for me to design for her, and while utilizing some time to write this blog, I am also creatively meditating on what to sew for her. This is one step ahead for me.

Take a look at this beauty. I have just sewn for myself. I feel so beautiful and confident wearing this. I have always thought that a skirt will never fit me as much as pants or trousers do, but I just realized that I have been wrong all along.

Due to my engagements in church activities, I needed to sew some skirts for myself, as pants are still being kicked against. Ladies are not encouraged to wear pants, especially if you belong to a serving unit in church, like the choir. Arguments about this have caused several controversies in the church, and in order to avoid discord in the body of Christ, we choose to dress only modestly and avoid clothes that will give negative impressions or expose our bodies.

In view of this, I realized that I have sewn too many dresses for myself; hence, I decided to change the narrative and sew myself a few skirts.

Two days ago I sewed a black fitted skirt for functionality purposes. The fabric wasn't enough to make me a grand design, but because I needed the skirt badly, especially one in black, I went ahead and made the black skirt.

Couldn't resist dancing to the music

Today I feel good in this new flared skirt I have just sewn, most probably because I gave it perfect finishing touches. While cutting and sewing, you will see these simple design tips that give your sewing a neat finish.

Cutting process

I folded fabrics into that and folded it in diagonal form like this to give me a 180° flair.

Next I measured my waist measurement, added zipper allowance, and divided this by 4. This was used to cut the circumference of the waist.

Next I measured the full length of my skirt and cut it out.

While cutting the skit band, you have to cut it also in a somewhat similar form to the skirt so that it can sit well along the waist contour.

This is one simple tip we often ignore, as most people are used to cutting a straight band, which often ends up forming folds on the waistline.

Next, you add some hairspray to the band like I did, then fold the edges on so that they get neatly folded and stay neat even when attached to the skirt like this.

The final part is being able to fix the zippers in very neatly before the skirt band.

I often prefer fixing zipper stitching and the seam lines before the band comes in later.

Wow! The skirt looks beautiful with a neat finishing, I love the over flow of the band which gives it a stylish outcome.

Dear, this skirt looks very pretty, the cuts give it a beautiful fall and waves, the detail of the belt gives it greater elegance.
