Hello to all the members of this community and craft lovers! In a previous post, I showed you how I made a book-shaped box, which was part of a birthday gift I made for my sister. This time, I'll show you how I decorated the box inspired by the series Our Flag Means Death, a series that my sister loves and that's why I made her some Stede and Ed plushies, who are the main characters. Since the series is based on pirates, I wanted a box that reflected that nautical style a bit ⚓️

Originally, I wanted to make a ship-shaped box in which I could place some of the flags seen in the series. But since I didn't have the necessary materials, let alone the time, I thought it best to improvise. Luckily, the alternative idea for decorating the box didn't seem so bad. A few days ago, I had seen a type of drawer made of wooden planks in a store, to be used as an organizer.

The rustic touch reminded me of those wooden boxes pirates use to store their supplies, so I thought about imitating a wooden box, since I didn't have the money to buy those organizers. 😅 First, I made the base of the box with cardboard I got from a cereal box (I love the idea of ​​storing all kinds of cardboard boxes). The measurements were the perfect size for the stuffed animals to fit together.

To achieve the wood effect I wanted, I had several options. One was to paint the box brown and draw the planks on it. But I didn't have the necessary paint colors, not to mention that the cardboard I used to make the box had some imperfections that would be impossible to cover with paint. So I thought of another way to achieve that wooden "box" effect. I then came up with the idea of ​​lining the cardboard box with a thin, light brown fabric (thus covering the imperfections of the cardboard). To give the box a hardness, I covered the inside with felt. For details and to achieve the wooden plank effect, I used some popsicle sticks I had bought a while back.

Since I didn't have enough popsicles to cover the entire box, I arranged them as best I could. 😅 I used liquid silicone or cold silicone to glue them together, as I consider it the best glue for this type of craft. If I had had more time and popsicles, I would have liked to have made the entire box using only popsicles. I think it would have looked amazing 😌

Finally, to give it that "marine" touch, I thought of some things I had in my craft drawers. Among them: a mesh fabric (which made me think of a fishing net), a thread that looked like rope, an anchor-shaped embroidery, and some shells from past visits to the beach.

Deciding where to place the materials was the most fun part for me. First, I placed the mesh fabric, applying glue only to the top and letting it drip down the front. When gluing the snails and shells, I used glue sticks or hot glue, as they dry faster. I also found a button in my sewing kit that looked like a barrel, so I glued that on as well.

When it came to packing the stuffed animals into the box, I wrapped them in a piece of tissue paper. I think it adds a touch of elegance to the gift ✨

Just like that, the other box was ready. My sister was fascinated with the gift. While my idea of ​​a boat-shaped box would have been great, I loved how this box turned out. I would have liked to glue some sailor's knots on it, but the threads I had didn't allow me to get a decent finish 😅

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de ésta comunidad y amantes de las manualidades! En un post pasado, les mostré como elaboré una caja con forma de libro , la cual era parte de un regalo de cumpleaños que hice para mi hermana. En ésta oportunidad, les mostraré como decoré la caja inspirada en la serie Our Flag Means Death, serie que le encanta a mi hermana y por eso, le hice unos peluches de Stede y Ed, quienes son los personajes principales. Como la serie, está basada en piratas, quería una caja que reflejase un poco ese estilo náutico ⚓️

Originalmente, quería elaborar una caja con forma de barco, en el cual pudiese colocar alguna de las banderas que se ve en la serie. Pero debido a que no contaba con los materiales necesarios, ni mucho menos con el tiempo, pensé que lo mejor, era improvisar. Por suerte, la idea sustituta para decorar la caja, no me pareció tan mala. Días atrás había visto en una tienda, una especie de cajones hecho con tablitas de madera, para ser usados como organizador.

El toque rústico, me recordó a esas cajas de madera en la que los piratas guardan las provisiones, así que pensé entonces en imitar un cajón de madera, ya que no disponía de dinero para comprar esos organizadores 😅 Primero, hice la base de la caja con cartulina que obtuve de una caja de cereal (me encanta la idea de guardar todo tipo de caja de cartón). Las medidas fueron de acuerdo al tamaño perfecto para que los peluches quedaran bien acomodados juntos.

Para hacer el efecto de madera que quería, tenía varias opciones. Una de ellas, era pintar la caja de color marrón y dibujarle las tablas. Pero no tenía los colores de pintura necesaria, sin mencionar que la cartulina con la que realicé la caja, tenía algunas imperfecciones que serían imposibles de cubrir utilizando pintura. De modo que pensé en otra forma de lograr ese efecto de "cajón" de madera. Se me ocurrió entonces forrar la caja de cartulina con una tela delgada de color marrón claro (cubriendo así, las imperfecciones de la cartulina). Para darle dureza a la caja, cubrí la misma en la parte interna con fieltro. A modo de detalles y para lograr el efecto de tablones de madera, utilicé algunas paletas de helado que había comprado hace algún tiempo.

Como no tenía suficientes paletas para cubrir toda la caja como tal, acomodé las mismas lo mejor que pude 😅 utilicé para pegarlas silicón líquido o frío, ya que considero que es el mejor pegamento para trabajar éste tipo de manualidades. Si hubiera tenido más tiempo y paletas, me hubiera gustado haber hecho toda la caja utilizando únicamente paletas. Pienso que hubiera lucido increíble 😌

Finalmente, para poder otorgarle ese toque "marino", pensé en algunas cosas que tenía en mis cajones de manualidades. Entre ellas estaba: Una tela de malla (la cual me hizo pensar en una red para pescar), un hilo que parecía como una cuerda, un bordado en forma de ancla y algunas caracolas de pasadas visitas a la playa.

Decidir la ubicación de los materiales, fue la parte más divertida para mí. Primero coloqué la tela de malla, colocando el pegamento únicamente en la parte de arriba y dejando que la misma, cayese en la parte frontal. A la hora de pegar los caracoles y conchas, utilicé silicón en barra o caliente, ya que su secado es más rápido. También encontré un botón en mi costurero que me pareció que tenía forma de barril, así que lo pegué también 😆

A la hora de guardar los peluches dentro de la caja, los envolví en un trozo de papel de seda. Pienso que eso, le da un toque de elegancia al obsequio ✨

De ésta forma, estuvo lista la otra caja. Mi hermana quedó fascinada con el regalo. Si bien, mi idea de una caja con forma de barco, hubiera estado genial, me encantó como quedó éste cajón. Me hubiera gustado pegarle algunos nudos de marinero, pero los hilos con los que contaba, no me permitían obtener un acabado decente 😅
