Hello guys
This is my pixel art drawing depicting the 5th prompt for the Zingtober contest: Deer . Of course the best option to draw for this prompt would be Naara the deer. Naara is taking her time walking late afternoon in the forest. The sun is about to set but the glimmer is still bright giving a perfect backdrop for this little deer character. The shadows of the tall trees and all creatures alike are long and gloomy but Naara is sending a good energy and a glow of hope that follows her while walking.
Here is how I made my entry to the contest:
I am deciding how I would create the deer character should it be like the deer animal or make it anthropomorphic? Judging from this image the animal figure is more suited for my drawing.
I added the trees and the ground checking how they would play with my main subject. Naara's ears, antlers and lower jaw are quite challenging to make because I am working with pixels I should be able to create more with less. That is the limitation and beauty of pixel art that is why I was drawn to it.
This is the scary part, when the shadows were added one dot at a time, it was looking chaotic and no direction. For a moment I was thinking the below portion could be a river that glistens but that would add a ton of noise to my already chaotic looking composition. Patience and stepping back to edit is the key to give focus and definition
It is already looking peaceful here after a few tweaks and the shadows done.
The peace I mentioned above is looking rather dull given that this is black and gray and so I added some highlights of white. On Naara I added those spots on her rump and the fur on her chest. To give it a magical atmosphere I added some twinkling lights.
that is such an adorable deer
I love reading about the process because I got a glimpse of the challenges you had like creating the details on Naara that seems quite impossible to do given that pixel art limits you with just a dot or two to work with. In the end this is still a stunning piece in my opinion I love it
