For this post, I decided to draw Tiderox in a chibi anime style. Tiderox is the second evolution of the Water Dragon from Holozing, and honestly, it’s one of the most charming aquatic characters I’ve had the joy of illustrating. With its large, gleaming eyes and friendly expression, Tiderox radiates a playful but majestic energy. While its appearance is adorable, you can sense the deep, ancient magic of the ocean flowing through its scales.

Para esta publicación decidí ilustrar a Tiderox en un estilo chibi anime. Tiderox es la segunda evolución del Dragón de Agua de Holozing, y sinceramente, es uno de los personajes acuáticos más encantadores que he tenido la dicha de dibujar. Con sus enormes ojos brillantes y su expresión amigable, Tiderox transmite una energía juguetona pero majestuosa. Aunque su apariencia es adorable, se puede sentir la magia ancestral del océano fluyendo por sus escamas.
Tiderox has a rounded, smooth body with a sleek aquatic form, ideal for swift movements in deep waters. Its color palette blends cool blues and purples, evoking the serenity of the ocean depths. One of its most notable features is the pair of soft, antler-like horns atop its head, adding an almost mythical charm to its design. Its large, fin-like ears and tail give it an elegant yet whimsical silhouette.
Its wide eyes are full of curiosity and kindness, which I emphasized by making them bright and glossy. It also has soft whiskers that curl gently near its mouth, giving it a distinctly dragon-like personality while still keeping its chibi cuteness intact. The segmented body features alternating colors with a subtle gradient, and every fin is designed to resemble delicate underwater petals.
Tiderox tiene un cuerpo redondeado y suave, con una forma acuática estilizada ideal para moverse ágilmente en las profundidades. Su paleta de colores combina azules fríos y morados, evocando la serenidad del fondo marino. Uno de sus rasgos más destacados es el par de cuernos suaves, similares a astas, que sobresalen de su cabeza y le dan un encanto casi mítico. Sus grandes orejas en forma de aletas y su cola le aportan una silueta elegante pero juguetona.
Sus ojos grandes están llenos de curiosidad y amabilidad, lo cual destaqué haciéndolos brillantes y resplandecientes. También tiene unos bigotes suaves que se curvan sutilmente cerca de su boca, lo que le da una personalidad muy de dragón sin perder el toque adorable del estilo chibi. Su cuerpo segmentado presenta colores alternados con un suave degradado, y cada aleta está diseñada para parecer pétalos delicados bajo el agua.
Process / Proceso
I started with a loose sketch to get the overall shape and expression of Tiderox. I kept the proportions exaggerated for that chibi effect — large head, small body, and stubby fins. The horns and facial features were placed carefully to maintain balance and visual appeal.
Then came the linework. I used clean, smooth lines to preserve the softness of the character. The outlines of the fins, whiskers, and body needed to be delicate but clear. I made sure the eyes were perfectly shaped because they’re the focal point of the piece.
For coloring, I selected soft, vibrant tones to reflect the underwater theme. The blue of the body is slightly desaturated to let the purples and pinks pop. I used gradients subtly to add depth and variation across the fins and body segments.
Next, I added shading. I imagined the light filtering from above the water, so I placed gentle shadows under the fins and body curves. These shadows help give the character volume without making it too dark.
The highlight stage is where the magic truly happened. I applied soft, glowing highlights to the eyes, fins, and even the horns. This gave the impression of shimmering scales and moist surfaces — perfect for a creature from the sea.
Finally, I created the background. I went for an undersea environment, using gradients of turquoise and deep blue. Coral shapes and seaweed silhouettes frame the character, guiding the viewer’s eye toward the center where Tiderox smiles brightly.
Comencé con un boceto suelto para captar la forma general y la expresión de Tiderox. Mantuve proporciones exageradas para lograr ese efecto chibi — cabeza grande, cuerpo pequeño y aletas cortas. Los cuernos y rasgos faciales fueron colocados cuidadosamente para mantener el equilibrio y la armonía visual.
Luego pasé al delineado. Utilicé líneas limpias y suaves para conservar la ternura del personaje. Los contornos de las aletas, bigotes y cuerpo debían ser delicados pero claros. Me aseguré de que los ojos estuvieran perfectamente definidos, ya que son el punto focal de la ilustración.
Para el coloreado, seleccioné tonos suaves y vibrantes que reflejaran el ambiente submarino. El azul del cuerpo es ligeramente desaturado para permitir que los morados y rosados resalten. Usé degradados sutiles para dar profundidad y variación a las aletas y segmentos del cuerpo.
Después, apliqué sombras. Imaginé la luz filtrándose desde la superficie del agua, así que coloqué sombras suaves debajo de las aletas y curvas del cuerpo. Estas sombras ayudan a dar volumen al personaje sin oscurecerlo demasiado.
La etapa de brillos fue donde ocurrió la magia. Añadí brillos suaves y resplandecientes en los ojos, aletas e incluso los cuernos. Esto dio la impresión de escamas brillantes y superficies húmedas, ideal para una criatura marina.
Finalmente, creé el fondo. Opté por un entorno submarino, utilizando degradados de turquesa y azul profundo. Formas de corales y siluetas de algas enmarcan al personaje, guiando la vista hacia el centro donde Tiderox sonríe alegremente.

Creating this artwork was an absolute delight. Tiderox is such a beautiful and magical creature, and reimagining it in my own style made me feel like I was exploring a secret ocean world. I hope this piece brings as much joy to you as it did to me while drawing it.

The tools I used for the drawing were the following:

- Capacitive pen (Stylus).
- Ibis Paint X program.
- Brushes: Pencil, Airbrush, Fuzzy, Marker.
