Ocean Healer

in Holozing Community19 days ago

Good night or good morning everyone, hope u all doing great.

This week I was kinda busy with a bunch of stuff, and I also grabbed some new art materials, so tbh I didn’t have that much time to sit down and draw the way I wanted. But after I finally got a lil break, I hyped myself up and ended up picking the Ocean Healer to make a fanart of her.

At first, I didn’t have a super clear plan, I just wanted to draw something that wouldn’t stress me out too much. So I went straight for the simple stuff: staying chill, no pressure, and working at my own pace, like I usually do when I just need to unplug a bit.

I didn’t start in Corel Painter for any big reason or anything like that,.. it’s just that I hadn’t opened it in a while, so I figured I’d give it a try again and I started the piece there. But after a bit, I switched over to Photoshop and kept going from there. Honestly, sometimes I just jump between programs for no specific reason, it’s just a habit at this point.

The good thing is that I can open my PSD files in both, so switching back and forth doesn’t really cause any issues, and it lets me work wherever I feel more comfortable in the moment.

In a way, I ended up making my own version of the Ocean Healer, but without changing too much. Instead of redesigning the whole character, I just went with small tweaks that came up naturally while I was working ... little things that made it feel more personal without drifting too far from the original idea. I didn’t want to reinvent her or turn her into something completely different; I just wanted to adjust a few details to match my style, keep the parts I like about the character, and give it my vibe without losing her essence.

Even though I didn’t have much time available, I actually enjoyed the process a lot. I moved forward at a calm pace, without rushing, letting each part fall into place naturally. I allowed myself to pause when I needed it and keep going only when I genuinely felt in the mood. In the end, I think that helped the artwork breathe better and not feel tense or overworked. Sometimes it’s worth letting go a little, letting the piece take its own rhythm instead of spending hours obsessing over a detail that might not even matter that much. Working in that more relaxed way helped me reconnect with what I enjoy about drawing.

I make the video because, honestly, it’s much more comfortable for me to take screenshots while I’m working. It’s like a way to keep a record without having to worry about doing it manually every time, which I used to forget. It’s already become part of my routine: I open the program, start drawing, and leave the recorder running. That way, later I can review the full process, see what I did without realizing it, and also have material to share.

As always, my plan is to save them to edit at some point and publish properly, calmly, when I have the time. I like being able to show how everything is built step by step, because I feel that reflects the real part of drawing more than just the final polished result you post. Sometimes the most interesting part is seeing those little mistakes, the doubts, the changes of direction… everything that happens “behind the scenes.”

Though, to be honest, there’s also the possibility that if I start running out of space on my PC, I might end up deleting some videos, hahaha. I know myself. But for now, I keep them there as a little personal archive of the process. And who knows, maybe something good will come out of those clips later. For now, it’s just useful to have them there, because it’s more practical and helps me keep a record of what I’m doing without too much stress.

And well, that’s it for now. I had a lot of fun working on this piece and just wanted to share a bit of the process with you. I’d never drawn a jacket like that before, but I went for it and I think it was a good idea idk but I really liked how it turned out. I still have a few things to fix, but I’m happy to be able to show you this. Catch you next time!

Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.

Oh, and one more thing before I wrap up...
