Welcome to the lil metal series, in this one we are talking about zirconium, now I think lots of us heard of it in the form of imitation diamonds (cubic zirconia).
Zirconium is a metal that is very resistant to corrosion and is primarily used in the nuclear sector, also apparently while stable in it's solid form zirconium powder is highly flammable and can be used in explosive devices, however this powder stuff is not used in nuclear applications and instead the high corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption make it great for cladding nuclear fuel rods.
Besides all that it's a fairly boring, I did not even know it was a metal until I did this post 🤣

These are cool to read, I didn't know it was used for fuel rods. The sodium comment makes me think of how mixing elements can wildly change properties. Such as the differences around sodium mixed with Potassium vs Chlorine. NaK is supposedly more reactive with water than either alone, and the other is safe to eat (NaCl aka table salt).
