¡¡Muchas Gracias!!

🏂Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Gamecube / Tricks and Falls🤕

Hello Gamers, how are you? I hope you are doing well, and welcome to my new post. I am now free from university obligations and want to take advantage of the holidays to create content about the video games I like the most, retro video games. The other day, I was out on the street and saw a boy riding a skateboard. He did some tricks, some of which went well and others not so well. Talking to someone else, he told me he really liked going out on his skateboard when it was fashionable, but you don't see that much in Venezuela.
And that was my inspiration to tell you about a video game that my relatives (brother, cousins, etc.) used to play when I was little. Since I have the GameCube emulator, I decided to download it and try it out. I'm talking about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, in this case for the Gamecube version, a game where we are professional skaters and we have to do impossible tricks in parks, airports, bays, or even in a cemetery to get the number of points needed to move on to the next level.

Personally, I've never been a fan of skateboarding. The one time I tried, I struggled with balance and ended up falling and crying, haha. Since then, I never touched a skateboard again. Tony Hawk's ProSkater 4 is a game I never played on the original console because I was very young and, at that time, the Gamecube already had disc reader issues, so the images are from the Dolphin emulator.

Later, I opened the game in the emulator and found the three main game modes. We have career mode, which works like story mode: we have to complete the objectives of each skate park to unlock new areas, characters, and skateboards. This is the main mode we need to complete the game.

However, if you're like me and don't know how to play, it's better to try free mode first. Here, we can skate without pressure, and it's the mode I chose to get used to the controls and see what characters the game has. Besides, I'm very bad at maintaining precision in these types of games, haha. Then there's multiplayer mode, which I'm not going to try because I'm alone, but I remember my family playing it a lot on the original GameCube. I don't remember if you could play with four characters, but I do remember that the screen was split vertically. In this mode, the player who scores the most points by doing tricks, jumps, etc., wins the game.

The gameplay is easy to explain: you're a skater, like Tony Hawk or another character, doing tricks, grinds, and combos for high scores. I downloaded the Gamecube version but used a PS3 controller since a Gamecube controller can't be connected to a PC. Using the stick to move is essential, so if it's damaged, the game won't be playable, haha.

When I tried it, I didn't really understand it very well, haha. Let's just say that 50% of my experience was jumping and then falling, haha. The funniest thing is that Tony Hawk's cries of pain are well recorded, which makes it even funnier. I learned how to jump, and when I saw a ramp for the first time, I did the jump right, but not the landing. I didn't remember that in these games, the characters bleed when they get hit, haha.

With the action buttons, for example, “Y,” we can stand with the skateboard on the edges and do tricks. I tried this trick several times, and it worked on several occasions, but the problem is that I always ended up falling off the skateboard, haha. I still don't know how to keep my balance, but I was able to stay on the edges of the walls or bars for a little while. On one of those occasions, I chose the amusement park to see what it was like, and I did this trick, and it worked. I kept my balance on the skateboard for a long time thanks to a connection of kiosks selling candy, and I ended up on a roof, and then I fell off again, haha.

Finally, let's talk about the characters that appear in the game. As I understand it, in the Tony Hawk series, we always find weird characters, and this Tony Hawk ProSkater 4 is no exception. We have Tony Hawk, of course, a sexy blonde, a Star Wars character (I don't know who it is, sorry), and the one I remembered, the purple zombie. I remembered that a zombie character appeared in this game. This zombie is purple with torn shorts because, of course, he's a zombie. A zombie with nice clothes doesn't exist, and he had no hair.

I also seem to remember that he had some exclusive tricks, although I couldn't pull off any of them because I'm bad at gaming, haha. He's the character I remember most from this skateboarding video game, since my cousins used him a lot. If you see him in the images, it's because I found a way to use him without going through story mode, haha.

Well, gamers, I hope you liked today's post. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is a game I would recommend at the time, but today we have better Tony Hawk video games that are much more realistic and popular. But I wanted to play this version to see how good it was and if I could find that zombie character that stuck in my mind, since it's the only one I remembered, and therefore the most iconic character in this video game for me. Technically, it's fine, and the tricks we can do are worthy of fantasy. I would never do them in real life, haha.
Thanks for reading.
🚏Bye!🚏
Thank you very much!!

I saw this video game a lot when the PS2 console was totally in fashion at that time, many people played it, I personally had never been interested enough to play it, but I enjoyed watching others play it more, I had a cousin who spent hours doing amazing tricks in that game and we had a good time laughing at some of the hits and poses that were done in that game.
I played the hell out of Tony Hawk 4 back on the PS2, and reading your experience brought back so many memories — the chaos, the falls, the ridiculous combos, all of it. It’s funny because even though you say you’re not great at skateboarding in real life, that’s exactly what made these games so fun: they let us pull off stuff we’d never dare try outside.
How you walked through the modes and your first impressions. Career Mode was legendary, but Free Mode was where I spent hours just messing around, trying to land combos that made zero sense. And bro… the purple zombie. I had completely forgotten about that character until you mentioned it. That thing was iconic in the weirdest way.
Like the personal stories make the post super enjoyable, even for someone who already knows the game inside out. It’s cool seeing it from your perspective — discovering it through an emulator, figuring out the controls, laughing at the falls. That’s the real magic of these old Tony Hawk games.
Keep these retro posts coming. They’re a great mix of nostalgia and personal storytelling, and they remind me why I loved this saga so much.
Apparently this Tony Hawk game is quite famous haha, because the tricks and falls are very genuine, it happens to me in real life and of course the game doesn't reflect realism, but rather some exaggeration in the tricks you can do in the air, but that's what's entertaining about these titles. The purple zombie is the main reason I chose to talk about this video game first because it's a character that has stuck in my mind since I was a kid, haha.
Thanks for commenting. I'll keep posting retro video games that catch my attention and that I like. Cheers.
That's right, Tony Hawk was generally the first skateboarding game in history that truly captured the style, tricks, and handling of the extreme sport at its finest. A skateboarding game made by skaters for skaters, haha. It's really good; I had a game of it against a friend a while back in Tony Hawk 2, and it's still just as good after all this time. I'll be keeping an eye out. Cheers.
I remember how frustrating that would end up being on my own GC and how it spelled the end of my GC experience altogether. I loved the GameCube but it wasn't nearly as successful as Nintendo would have hoped I think. I had a traveling job at that time in my life and the console was so much more portable than their competitors back then.
I have a love for almost all of the Tony Hawk games but I never did get around to playing this one very much.
That's true, the reader can be very harmful, but there's always a way to fix it. The console wasn't as successful as I expected, but for me it was the last console that seriously competed with the other franchises, as you can see from the game catalog.
I'm not a big fan of Tony Hawk games, but I played this one and others, and they're fun, especially because of the soundtrack.
