LEGO: Skywalker Saga.... This is great for Star Wars fans

in Hive Gamingyesterday

The Lego games have a special place in the industry of gaming. We all know about them to some degree and many people, myself included, would argue that they have been overdone. While I really enjoyed some of the earlier titles like the Indiana Jones one and the original Star Wars Trilogy one, there have been a ton of them that I didn't like how they were designed and didn't get very far into playing them. One of the ones that this was the most evident in was the Lord of the Rings one which I expected to love since it is one of my all-time favorite film-series, but it just fell flat with me because for a Lego game, it was too complicated.

After completing and absolutely loving Ender Magnolia I found myself at a crossroads that is all too familiar in that I wasn't going to like anything that I played next and that has been the case with 3 games in a row which I quickly abandoned.

I think Skywalker Saga is finally going to change that.

The video-game industry has changed a lot in the past 20 years and therefore, this is going to be quite a boring game for a lot of people for a very simple reason: It is extremely easy.

It is meant to be playable by anyone and there is no way to "lose." If you get struck down you just appear right away again and it continues like this infinitely until you eventually figure out what to do and emerge victorious. The only negative thing that happens if you do "die" is that you lose some of the in-game currency called "studs" which are just single Lego pieces that appear when you do just about anything in the game.

I'm not sure how much of this you actually need and I don't put a great deal of thought into actually acquiring it but it can be used at any time to purchase upgrades, new ships, new characters, and some other things that would maybe be important to someone that is trying to 100% the game. For me, this game is huge and I don't even know if I will try to complete it, so I just go through the game on story mode, or so I thought I would... haha.

After completing A New Hope, which is the first Star Wars movie that was released before most of us were born, instead of going on to Empire I decided to free-play the levels of that first saga instead and try to do the side quests and get some other collectibles and trust me, there are a lot of them.

This game is absolutely massive and for the people out there that did end up 100%ing it, that must have taken a long time. There are parts of the game that the only way forward is to have a particular character type and therefore going back to complete these sections isn't something you can do with your first playthrough. There are not many instances that require a specific character (there might not be any) and that is a good thing IMO. For example: Any area what would require someone from the Dark Side to open a door, it can be done with any of the unlockable characters that have that attribute, and this includes Luke or Han wearing Stormtrooper uniforms, which you may recall is something that happens in the film A New Hope so in the game you get these costumes unlocked very early on.

We all have our favorite films in the epic saga although I would guess that not many people consider the above one to be a favorite at all, and this is one thing the game does very well. You are not required to play the game in any particular order. If you wanted to start in episode 9 and work your way backwards to episode 1, you can go ahead and do that. Once a level is cleared in story mode, you can return to explore to your heart's content and if you do it close enough to when you did the story, you will encounter a ton of doors that were not available to you when you went through the first time.

For hardcore gamers, this one is likely going to be boring unless they are huge fans of the films like I am. You can't lose, the only thing in your way is how many times you are willing to try over and over again in order to achieve victory. The only instance I have found where this might be a bit annoying is the various races that they have that take place both on foot and in vehicles and it will take you back to the beginning if you don't finish is a certain time-frame. It's just a few minutes but I know from my own gaming preferences that sometimes a couple of minutes seems like an eternity in gaming.

This game is currently free for anyone that has a PS-Plus Extra or higher subscription and for me, it is a great time waster. There is always something else to discover and while the story in the game sticks with the actual movies' story, it is presented in a humorous way that will be extra special for anyone that is like me and saw most of these films in the theaters.

I recommend it, especially if you can get it for the grand price of "nada" which is how much it costs at the moment for subscribers.
