Living a simple life has always been our goal as a family. For us, simplicity means being content with what we have and making the most of every blessing around us. One of the best ways we practice this is through our backyard garden. A small yet meaningful space that provides food, peace and joy for our family.

Our backyard is filled with different plants that grow beautifully under the sun. I have herbal plants such as pandan, herba, lemongrass and other kinds of medicine herbs that I use for both cooking and natural healing. Pandan add a fresh aroma to rice and desserts, while herba and other herbs help soothe coughs and cold. Having these plants close by means we don’t always need to buy medicine or spices, they grow right in our backyard, free and organic.

We also have several vegetables growing, Like eggplant, sigarilyas, kangkong and more. I love seeing the thrive because they remind me of how simple efforts can lead to meaningful results, I make sure that no part of our backyard stays empty. For me, it’s better to fill the ground with vegetables than let the grass take over. Every inch of soil is an opportunity to grow something useful, something that can feed and help our family.

Aside from vegetables we have also many papaya trees, growing guyabano, banana that bear fruits all year around. They’re easy to grow and provide both food and shade. Near our backyard where we plant rice and beside it is our small fishpond where we raise catfish for our own consumption. We also have another pond for tilapya, which adds more variety to our daily meals. These small sources of food may seem simple, but they make a big difference. We know exactly where our food comes from, it’s a fresh, safe and grown with love.

We make sure to grow our vegetables and fish organically, without using harmful chemical. This is especially important to me because my mother-in-law has an illness in her high cholesterol and high sugar. I want to provide her with healthy, natural food. That why I dedicate time t planting vegetables even I’m so busy in my online job. Having fresh vegetables available anytime save money and ensures we eat nutritious meals every day.

Working in the garden gives me a sense of peace. It keeps me active and connected to nature. I enjoy watering the plants early in the morning. Feeling the fresh air and seeing new sprouts each day. Gardening has taught me to be patient and grateful, to appreciate small blessings that grow quietly over time.

Our backyard may be small, but it is full of life and purpose. Every plant, every leaf and every harvest remind us that a simple life ca be a happy and abundant one.

Producing your own food, and organically, should be a priority for every person
Of course, we are not all the same and we do not all think the same
Congratulations on your effort

Thank you so much! I agree, growing our own food even in small ways teaches us appreciation for what we eat. 🌱
