Between Flowers and Scars… for the #monomad challenge

in Black And White6 days ago

Hello black and white photography lovers!
Today I want to share with you a series of images that came to life during one of the hardest; yet most revealing; moments in recent years. These photos were taken in the midst of the pandemic, during a time of uncertainty, when our routines had been broken and humanity seemed to be holding its breath.

Back then, my camera became both a refuge and a mirror. I started to distance myself from social photography because I felt trapped in a loop, capturing the same painful reality over and over again. Different faces, same story: resignation, scarcity, daily struggle. I needed a new focus. I needed to find beauty again; not through escapism, but through truth.

One day, while walking without much direction, I came across a couple on the street. I didn’t know them, but something about the way they walked together caught my attention. I approached them and asked if they’d let me take a few photos. I told them about my idea, and they agreed with a trust that deeply moved me. I’m still grateful for that.

I used my Canon 60D with the 18-55mm and 50mm lenses. The light was natural, the moment spontaneous. Choosing black and white was very intentional. I wanted to strip away the color and focus only on the essence. Hands, flowers, the tree… each element a symbol of something deeper.

But this series is not just about technique. It’s a visual reflection on love, endurance, and human connection.

During the pandemic, many couples fell apart. The pressure, the uncertainty, the isolation and fear brought unresolved wounds and buried differences to the surface. The noise of daily life used to cover them; but silence revealed everything. Still, for others, it became a time of reconnection, of rediscovery, of learning how to truly hold each other when the world was falling apart.

These images speak of that: of the kind of love that endures, that grows stronger through adversity. Not a perfect love, but a real one. One that blooms even when everything else withers. Hands reaching for each other, flowers being offered, small gestures that become essential.

Photography allowed me to see love without words. A love made of presence, of quiet actions, of shared silence.

That’s what I tried to capture. And I believe I did.

Thank you for taking the time to look and read. These photos mean a lot to me, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Not just on the technique; but on what they awaken in you. Because in the end, photography is not just about what we show… it’s about what we move in others.
