These images were made in 2013, and I think they mark my first flirtation with a more conceptual and perhaps even dark approach to photography.
Melancholy, I realize now, has always been present in my work. Ever since the first photo shoot I did back in college, it was already there. In the beginning, my work had a more documentary and journalistic tone, more committed to portraying people’s memories and the reality of the society I am part of. But over time, I became more interested in creating my own reality through photography, and that same melancholy started to take on new shapes.
Perhaps more subjective ones, open to freer interpretation. That is the spirit in which I share these images today, as my submission to the #monomad contest, for you to make your own reading of them.
To me, they only make sense in the exact order they are posted. They speak to me about the dissident self, and about giving up.

I loved your photos, they really caught my attention. Seeing oneself is the most uncomfortable reconciliation we can practice, it is an act of compassion.
There is a lot of poetry in these images. My narrative, in the order you propose, speaks to me of fear of uncertainty, of intimate space, of daring, of re-emerging from another approach... to conclude with rebirth, liberation and self-realisation.
My admiration for your daring.
I was delighted to stop by. Congratulations.
