The Fool

in The Kingdom3 days ago

Good ol' social media....

Nothing says 'productive' quite like scrolling feeds and finding funny memes that you can share with your friends. Wow, what great way to spend a few hours...

Yeah I'm guilty!

I was scrolling this afternoon and came across one of the funnier memes that I've seen in recent memory. But the story changes after you see it...

As soon as I saw it, the 'muppet' obviously grabbed my attention. That's the shock value, to get you to stop in your tracks. But the 'awe' or humbling aspect of this meme was what it said...

If you are familiar with the book of Proverbs, you'll know it's ripe with self reflective verses and some even call it the greatest self development book in history. I think it actually teches you to 'die to self' but that's another story...

Anyways, one of the terms that comes up a lot is...Fool.

The author, King Solomon, while breaking these verses down, is actually challenging the reader to find the 'fool' in ourselves. Which is exactly what this meme gets across.

My favorite verse in the bible is Proverbs 16:18.. Let's break it down....

And while this verse doesn't have the word fool in it, I'm actually a 'fool' because every time I throw this verse around to others and parade it like 'don't be so full of pride', I'm the one in fact, having the haughty spirit.

I'm the one full of pride.

The greatest error I think believers can have in this world is thinking....We are perfect. We think that as soon as we give our lives to Christ, every one else is damaged goods and we are the children of the kingdom.

But what does the bible teach?

Just read Proverbs and you can see :)

In fact, here's a fun exercise.....Grab your concordance and search the word 'fool'....See how many times that word appears in Proverbs. Or if you want, click this link and prepare to have your jaw drop... (link to all the times the word fool appears in the bible)

So while this meme I shared was intended to make a few people smile and laugh, which I'm sure it did, it also got me to check my ego and pride at the door.

This is why we need Christ! Because if left to our own, well, we end up quite....Foolish.

I definitely catch myself thinking I’m way smarter than I am sometimes. It’s humbling and kind of funny when I realize it.

It's human nature. Thankfully, God catches us in the act :)

Oh yes, thankfully 🙏

The word of God is a deep sea, never ever finishing..

Amen to that!

Thank you

Hmm @jongolson,I always love how you give your opinion on morality, you don't sugar cost it,you say it as it is.

To your topic of discuss and where you said we need Christ, because if left to our own we end up quite....FOOLISH.And that is the truth, because the scripture says in Proverbs 3:5-6,"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding:in all your ways submit to him and He will make your path straight".
It is a straight forward command.

Even Apostle Paul in his to the church in Conrith,He told them "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall."(1 Corinthians 10:12)

This are instances in the Bible admonishing us we need Christ as believers.
Thanks 🙏 for updating @jongolson

Amen and amen. Thanks for the comments and for checking out the blog!

Yes friend, we have to be careful not to look down on those who haven't received Christ. At least there was a time we were like that yet mercy met us. We should always pray for them that such should reach them too. Haven't we heard the great commission?

Or even...Those that do have Christ in their heart yet we think we 'know' more than them.

Proverbs teaches us so much about humility and recognizing our own shortcomings.

One of my favorite books in the bible!

Being aware of your own reality saves you a lot of trouble.
