Having served in the United States Armed Forces, Memorial Day is always a bit of a somber day. Here it falls on the last Monday in the month of May every year and is dedicated to honor those who lost their lives while in military service. Having served during the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan, I have lost many friends over the years to combat related injuries. It really is nice that we have a day to remember those who didn't make it home alive.
Sadly, the losses in recent wars are nothing compared to the lives lost during World War I (20 million deaths) and World War II (70-85 million deaths.) I sincerely hope that the world doesn't have to see another World War, but it does worry me more and more daily that the world is heading the wrong direction yet once again.
This is a salute to all the fallen warriors who never made it home, and it would be a wonderful thing to see all wars come to an end. However, I fear that human nature will prevent that from ever becoming a reality...
Rather than put up a header about Memorial Day, I thought it would be nice to share one of my Silver Eagle bullion coins produced way back in 1990. The only reason I bought this particular coin was the touch of oxidation or toning you can see near the top and bottom on the obverse (front) of the coin and the bottom of the reverse (back) of the coin. It just really liked how it looked, so I ended up buying from the coin shop several years back.

The United States Silver Eagle one Troy ounce bullion coins are one of the best ways to invest in silver. They do come at a little higher premium (price) than other silver not produced by the government, but are always in high demand by collectors and investors alike. I have always loved this design fashioned after the old Walking Liberty half dollar, back when coins produced in the United States were still works of art. I sincerely wish they would stop putting old, dead politicians on our money and go back to Liberty as the subject on all our currency.
I believe in one or two years from now silver prices will be much higher, and we will all have wished we bought more silver when it was still relatively inexpensive. The way things are going in the world silver and gold will only become more valuable...
That will wrap up my post for this Memorial Day 2025. I hope we all remember those who have fallen in battle no matter in what nation you happen to live. Many of those men and women gave their lives so we might be able to live. I also hope you enjoyed the Silver Eagle I shared as well, they are just so pretty and I love adding them to my silver stack.

My grandfather was a partisan. She never forgot. I honor all the brave men who landed in Normandy and marched through Europe. Your sacrifice gave hope to millions. I will never forget.

World War II really was heartbreaking to see all of the suffering of the European people. It's really too bad your mother had to live through that, no one should ever have to. I'm glad we were able to help end the war and liberate Italy and the rest of Europe. Thanks for honoring and remembering those men who lost their lives in that campaign. Rome is completely different place now than just 80 years ago, the world has changed so much so quickly, hasn't it?

So you served and did tours in these two middle Eastern countries as well? I wouldn't have thought that. How many tours did you do?
Two, but as a reservist at that point my time overseas was limited to 90 days per rotation. Neither country would I care to make a repeat visit...
I always think it's funny how people get memorial day mixed up with veterans day. Not that our veterans don't deserve recognition. Just know who this day is for.
I do too, the days are completely different. I never understood using "happy" in front of Memorial Day either, that just may be me though!
Yes wars of the past there was much loss. Im with you on WW III scary thing considering what is out there as far as warfare. Anyways a day a rembererance for our fallen brothers and sisters.
Yes money needs less presidents. Lady Liberty is a good choice. Maybe even some fallen heroes like they did with quarters with States.
I truly hope we don't see round three... It's a good day to remember our brother and sisters who fell in battle and weren't as lucky as us. That's a good idea to honor some of the fallen heroes on coins as well, it would be a great way to remember them!
