Yo me aferré a él.

No sabes cuánto te amo.

English Version

This weekend was one of those I never want to live through again. One of those where your heart tightens, your mind won’t rest, and tears show up constantly. Mordelón, my furry adventure buddy, got sick. He ate something—we still don’t know exactly what—that caused terrible indigestion. He stopped eating, was vomiting, and had constant diarrhea. I watched him fade, without energy, without that spark that makes him so him.

In my town, there are no veterinarians working on weekends, and that’s torture for those of us who love and care for animals. All we can do is wait, improvise, do whatever’s in our hands, and pray hard that things don’t get worse. I held on to him. I gave him mild herbal teas, water with a syringe, lots of love… and patience. Until yesterday, when I had almost lost hope, he finally accepted a little natural yogurt.

Plain yogurt, with no sugar or flavoring, can be a great ally for dogs with mild diarrhea. It helps restore their gut flora thanks to the probiotics, and it also gives them a bit of hydration. It’s not magic, but it’s a huge relief when a vet isn’t an option.

Today I can say, with peace in my heart, that Mordelón is okay. He’s eating normally again, there’s no more diarrhea or vomiting, and this morning he was even playing with his sister Chiqui as if nothing had happened. I hugged him tight and stayed like that for a while, just like in this picture, silently grateful that he stayed with me.

Thank you, Mordelón, for fighting, for staying, for filling my life with so much love. You have no idea how much I love you.
