I have been in the same situation. I texted about 7–8 people I know on Hive for help. I was also taken as a scammer to some people at some point, and when I got back to Hive, someone asked me to explain why I was texting people. The thing is, so many things about this “Seunruth” issue don’t feel right. I don’t see how you text the whole Hive and give false information as a way out. This is a scam, and the funniest thing is, she used her close friend’s name to lie to get money from people. She didn’t do well in many areas. Also, blaming the hardship in the country is no excuse. This case is so annoying, especially because it makes it so hard for the people actually struggling to seek help. It makes me so angry, and I really can’t hold it anymore.
I still owe about three Hivers money to date, and I constantly explain my plans and update them on my payment methods. I have also repaid many loans I have taken in my long time here on Hive. It sucks that she took money, stopped replying, and faked documents and all. I’ve thought about this critically because I spoke to her on the phone before all this, and she didn’t sound like someone who could do this. I believe she’s under some sort of pressure or has joined forces with some fraudulent people to achieve this. Either way, it’s really bad.
Everybody sometimes needs help. There is a right way to do that. You texted 7-8 people like copy-paste? Because nobody likes spam. So at the end of the day, if you're a long-time Hive user, you know how to do things right. Maybe my title was not correct. I know I made a mistake in not writing “allegedly,” but there is so much proof and red flags that I had to make a post to warn other Hive users that before you lend money, you should do research. Plus, we all make mistakes, so if she is innocent, she should come to Hive and clarify things. I asked my husband to help her grow on Hive and raise money the right way, not through Discord, but she didn't respond. So, you know her? you spoken with her? When? And why didn't she call me? Because maybe when I told her that if she doesn't return the money, I will tell everyone on Hive, she totally agreed. And if you are innocent, you never play the victim.
@josediccus if she was hacked, why didn't she create a new account? Why not tell people on Hive? Why just leave after being so active and meeting new people? I don't want to speculate. I gave you facts, and that's it.

When I read the screenshot messages between the both of you, u could not help but shake my head and laugh at the audacity.
Playing the victim card is an all time low when compared to the number of people she or he scammed.
This is not to judge her person but the right thing to do would have been to own up to the mistake, apologize sincerely to all those she hurt and move on or away from hive.
She had no right to use her country as a determinant factor for this crime because I also live in the same country. I am a single mum, living with two siblings whim I feed, cloth and pay their school fees yet my income is not even up to 35 hbd monthly.
Sometimes, I wet my pillow in tears as the weight of the burden rests on my shoulders and sometimes, I bite the gun by asking a few close hivers to loan me and so far, I have been able to meet up with repayment. It wasn't easy doing this and it is still not easy with my life at the moment but I would rather beg and get rejected than sell a lie or scam other innocent people.
We always sow what we reap, directly or indirectly and what this hiver has done, is sowing a lot of evil for his or her future.
Stop scamming people, we are not all fools.

I look for ways to supplement my income and that way, I can manage. Although, there are times it is very tough but even at that, I won't scam other people like i said earlier.

If you ask me, I think the account might be hacked and the hacker is using the account to steal. The grammar seems poor, I've interacted with the account in the past, and they sounded quite different from how they're typing or using words.

I'm Nigerian, a proud Nigerian. I have lived in the most ghetto part of Nigeria and I've lived in the most beautiful parts of Nigeria. One thing I know when I see one, is the manipulative tactics of a scammer.
Many of us had no body to help us in life. Parents were not financially capable. Our health failed, and we don't even have money to start life. We lived through severe hunger, thrived through leaking roof and still come out every day with one thing in our mind - how to get the next meal and live better, legally.
I'm not his or her victim, but i'm really pissed at this BS for an apology. Don't be surprised, she's currently scamming another person at the moment.

Inarguably, we are not living a life of honey and sweet perfumes over here, but then, there are lots of opportunities in this country. Come to Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, you will see people hustling day and night. Even children have their own hustle. They don't go about stealing money from people cause' of jungle justice (burning a thief to death or beating them to near death).
Try asking her what she did with the money she scammed from people. Its either she spent it carelessly or something, who knows? Maybe her mom had health issues, but then, I can't even believe that because of the forged bills and report.

@seunruth, two wrongs do not make a right. There are many people in Nigeria that are hardworking, diligent and honest regardless of how bad the economy is but people like you are the reason why life gets harder for them. You know why? For everytime you ruin the reputation of Nigeria, it doesn't just affect you but everyone in the country. Doors begin to close on them and the heartbreaking part is, the innocent suffers more. They don't have the heart to scam or do something illegal so they take the larger part of the consequences, some just die in silence.
What happened to writing consistently with your hands? And from what I read on your post when I scrolled down, you make outfits , what happened to doing DIYs? If many people come out to share their problems, you might be surprised that you are way better than some.

We all know a lot of people here come from countries where their paycheck is smaller than what she stole from me, and that's sad. They put so much effort into their articles, and this is something that helps them build a better life…if she lives there, how the hell does she have the heart to steal from their own people when she sees how bad life can be there? It´s hard to tell what is a lie here and what not. I constantly suffer from depression since I am 15. I know this struggle, never had enough money to live, etc. So this part could be true. Before you get angry, keep reading.
This all doesn´t justify lying to people, stealing their money and stuff like that. That is NOT what I am saying. I never did that in my life, I always tried to earn my money honestly. But Germany has better possibilities to do that than other countries, for example Nigeria. Some people have a harder life than others. Still that doesn´t justify faking reports and scam people.
I just say, she got her punishment. We should leave her alone now. And rather be sorry for people like her who feel the need to do this, instead of getting angry about them.

The past / expired tab has a few projects that got funding but never really delivered. The bulk of the community generally agrees thay some of the things funded by value plan do not add "value" to hive.

I suggest everyone votes for the return proposal, as it raises the bar for every other proposal before it is funded by the DHF, making it more difficult to get funding for projects thay the community does not unanimously agree add value to the block chain.

If someone has a REALLY good idea, it´s almost impossible for him to cross the border of the return proposal, if they don´t have contact and the support of the "high society" on Hive. These some people with huge accounts that support each other.
If you make the return proposal even higher, smaller people here won´t ever stand a chance.
I think I have quite a few good ideas how to market Hive and to do something for the chain. But I never made a proposal because it always discouraged me that without having these "rich" contacts here, you stand no chance.
I will look into and learn a little about how this works, including proposals and so on. I was never sure how this functions.
I never really paid much attention to proposals, or rather, I never believed people would dare to submit a proposal, raise funds, and then fail to deliver…especially since you'd likely damage your reputation on Hive. I know some creators who have active proposals and are genuine, but I've noticed others proposals that are still active yet have no content and are downvoted. Maybe those were bad from the start, and everyone figured it out early on. Still, some may have flawless content, everything explained perfectly, but are still scams. Oh boy... I have so much to learn 😂

Wow. It is well, but she has gone too far into this, and then makes an excuse about life. Common, life has dealt with many people, and that doesn't justify her action of scamming people. I understand your anger and I agree that a depression is not a valid reason to steal from people. But I do feel sad for people being in such a situation.
The 'positive' part is that she does seem to feel sorry for what she did. She could also have ignored your post, create a new account and start scamming again (which still is possible by the way).
Also the fact that she mentioned that she wants to return the money is a positive sign. Whether she will actually do it will remain unsure.
I think it is a good decision that you let it go now.

The situation is truly disappointing. She shared seven posts about her mother's kidney surgery, but not a single one about depression. She said she'd been depressed since she was 15, right? Hive is a home for me, and I've been here for years. I've felt depressed a few times and shared posts about it here. I never thought I was seriously depressed; it's just that sometimes everything seems hopeless and you feel overwhelmed. My posts were mostly about things like that.

@incublus, this was my exact question… many of us use Hive to write about our lives and problems. I’ve said it many times… Hive helped me so much when I was feeling down because of my illnesses. I wrote things down, and I felt better. People reached out and supported me, and I felt better. I think two weeks ago, I wrote about anxiety and epilepsy because I was feeling low, and the first thing I did in the morning was put it down on paper because I knew I would feel better. So why didn't she do the same? I'm a little confused because some people now tell me they understand she did this because of depression… Am I a bad person now for not believing that? 🤔
Of course, that's a possibility, but the other one seems more likely to me. When you borrow money from someone you don't know and say you'll pay them back, but months go by, what do you expect to happen? A thank you? I don't think so. Debts are meant to be paid. If they can't be paid, the payment date or the earliest possible date should be communicated. The fact that they haven't shared any posts about the depression I mentioned above is another matter. My advice is not to dwell on it too much. What's done is done. I hope they pay you back, but I doubt it. Either way, it seems like there's no going back.

Well, thank you @tinabrezpike, for your efforts in exposing her and helping to protect others from falling victim to her scams. I’m also very sorry for your loss.
If this lady was really struggling with depression, she could have opened up about it and sought help. I’ve often talked in my posts about the difficult situation in our country and the toll it could take on our mental health, many of us are going through very hard times.
However, someone like her might find it even harder because she seems unable to live within her means, showing discontent and ingratitude. Despite receiving so much support, she continued to ask for more and hurt a lot of people in the process.
@seunruth, the only genuine way to show remorse is to use your staked Hive to refund your victims.
If you truly are depressed, I encourage you to study the Bible and pray with faith, this will bring you inner peace. Also, reach out to others, talk about your struggles, and invest more time in developing your sewing skills and writing here on Hive.

Wow, that sucks. There are SO many people struggling on this site. Like, that's why I ended up cashing out almost all of my HP, because I needed it to pay bills, and I'm chronically ill and can't work a regular job anymore, and I can't afford medical treatment. But even I have it so much better than lots of other people here! There are folks who don't even have plumbing in their homes, just look at the borehole projects supporting people who don't even have that basic need met, and others have blogged about it personally. But they never tried to scam people. She said no excuses but tried to give several different excuses.
Like listen, I understand certain things ...if a desperate person steals food or baby diapers or something, I'm not gonna snitch, I know they're desperate. But there is also a difference between a desperate person stealing from a corporation who would just write off that loss, versus stealing from individual people who are also struggling to survive. You're pulling other people down and drowning them with you doing that.
You're right… desperate people stealing food is completely different… they still wouldn't steal it, but if they do, they'll feel really bad 100%. If you need food, just tell me… but taking money from people and lying about what you need it for…that's different. Why didn't she tell us the truth? For example, when I see homeless people, I prefer to give them food rather than money… I'll never forget a man begging for money. I decided to buy him some food, but when I brought it to him, he said he didn't want it…he wanted money. I was completely shocked. I asked him why, but he wouldn't answer. You're unemployed, living outside, and you won't take food? So are you lying about being homeless and knowing this is a way to make easy money? I didn't give him food, I left. Every desperate person would take it. If she told me what the money was for, it might be something else. But if you’re lying, it's for something you don't need urgently. Can I ask what kind of disease you have?

There is no excuse at all for what she did and painful how because of people like her, other innocent Nigerians are labeled scammers as well.
The right thing to do was to apologize and let those who he/she hurt know he/she is sorry and how the money collected will be returned discussed and not coming to play the depression card, so many of us are depressed but did not go around scamming people to come out of our depression.
