Fungi Friday. The first birch boletes

Hello, friends! The weather has been rainy lately — sometimes even cold — but it turns out that’s all it takes for mushrooms to start growing near my home. You might have forgotten (this is for those of you who’ve read my posts in past years, during previous mushroom seasons 😎), but along the edge of my property grows a row of birch trees that I planted myself. A few years ago, Leccinum scabrum — commonly known as birch boletes — began appearing beneath them. These mushrooms form a symbiotic relationship specifically with birch trees. That’s why, especially after rain, I often check that area and usually find some mushrooms there. This year, I’ve already harvested the first batch: last week I spotted two large mushrooms under the birches — one old, the other young and firm — along with two smaller ones nearby. I picked the big ones and left the smaller ones to grow a bit more.	Привіт, друзі! Зараз дощова погода — часом було навіть холодно. Але, як виявилося, цього цілком достатньо, щоб біля мого дому вже почали з’являтися гриби. Можливо, ви вже забули (це стосується тих із вас читав у мої дописи у минулі роки, у минулі грибні сезони 😎), що на межі моєї ділянки росте ряд беріз, які я посадив власноруч. Кілька років тому під цими березами почали з’являтися підберезники ( Leccinum scabrum) — гриби, які утворюють симбіоз саме з березами. Тому час від часу, особливо після дощів, я перевіряю цю ділянку і знаходжу там грибочки. Цього року я вже знайшов перший урожай. Минулого тижня побачив під березами два великі гриби: один був старий, а другий — молодий, міцний. Ще поруч росли два маленькі грибочки. Великі я забрав, а менших залишив підрости.

Привіт, друзі! Зараз дощова погода — часом було навіть холодно. Але, як виявилося, цього цілком достатньо, щоб біля мого дому вже почали з’являтися гриби. Можливо, ви вже забули (це стосується тих із вас читав у мої дописи у минулі роки, у минулі грибні сезони 😎), що на межі моєї ділянки росте ряд беріз, які я посадив власноруч. Кілька років тому під цими березами почали з’являтися підберезники ( Leccinum scabrum) — гриби, які утворюють симбіоз саме з березами. The next day I came back to take a photo — and the mushrooms had already grown a bit. Then, for a few days, I wasn’t able to check on them — I didn’t have time, and it kept raining. Later, my brother-in-law went there, saw that the mushrooms had grown, picked them, and took a few photos, which I’ll share with you here with his permission.	Наступного дня прийшов зробити фото — і вони вже трохи підросли. Потім кілька днів не мав змоги навідатись — не було часу, та й постійно падав дощ. Згодом туди зайшов мій шваґро, побачив, що гриби виросли, зірвав їх і зробив кілька фото, якими я з його дозволу поділюсь.

Наступного дня прийшов зробити фото — і вони вже трохи підросли. Потім кілька днів не мав змоги навідатись — не було часу, та й постійно падав дощ. Згодом туди зайшов мій шваґро, побачив, що гриби виросли, зірвав їх і зробив кілька фото, якими я з його дозволу поділюсь.

That same day, I decided to take a walk near the other birch trees and found another small, young birch bolete (and next to it, sadly, another tiny one that had been crushed and looked like a pancake — someone must have stepped on it 😥). I’ll be keeping an eye on the remaining one, too — unless someone picks it first, since it’s growing near the road where people often pass by.	Того ж дня я вирішив прогулятися біля інших беріз і знайшов ще одного маленького, молодого підберезника (а біля нього ще одного маленького, але на жаль роздушеного і схожого на млинець - хто на нього був наступив 😥). Тепер теж буду за ним спостерігати, якщо, звісно, хтось не зірве його раніше — бо росте він біля дороги, а там часто ходять люди.

Того ж дня я вирішив прогулятися біля інших беріз і знайшов ще одного маленького, молодого підберезника (а біля нього ще одного маленького, але на жаль роздушеного і схожого на млинець - хто на нього був наступив 😥). Тепер теж буду за ним спостерігати, якщо, звісно, хтось не зірве його раніше — бо росте він біля дороги, а там часто ходять люди.
