Merapi Coffee Shop Aesthetic Hangout with Mountain View

A few days ago, I stopped by a place that I think you should really visit if you're in Yogyakarta. The name is Kopi Merapi.. The location is at the foot of Mount Merapi. Seriously, this is a very different experience because we need effort to get there.
Just traveling there is already very exciting for me. When the motorbike started to climb leaving the city of Yogyakarta, the air immediately turned cold. For those who never been there, this isn't just an ordinary coffee shop. Forget about cafes with cute interiors, the atmosphere here is very different, like having coffee in the middle of ruins turned into an aesthetic hangout spot.
When you arrive there, don't be surprised. The tables and chairs are made from large stones, intentionally rough, and some are made from teak wood (this wood is known for its good quality and strength). The roof is a joglo style, but many sides are open, allowing the mountain breeze to come in directly. Everything feels very connected to the surrounding nature and nothing looks forcedly modern.
When I went there, I was unlucky. The sky was cloudy, so I couldn't get the Merapi moment. If it was sunny, the view would have been amazing. Sitting on a cold stone bench while looking at the natural scenery around it feels ... well, it makes you calm instantly. So while sipping hot coffee, your eyes can be spoiled with views that you won't find in the middle of the city.
The menu there is also very simple like black coffee, milk coffee, milk, fried foods, fried bananas, instant noodles. But somehow, everything tastes better because of the atmosphere. Maybe it's because the weather is cold, so when you taste hot coffee and hot fried foods, it's a perfect combination. The price is also very wallet friendly. I ordered milk coffee and fried food that was still hot, and it was great!
Now, just a little note for you who want to go there. You will pass through the Kaliurang retribution post, and usually, there's a fee of Rp5,000 per person. But, I have a little cheeky tip, hehe. If you can act relaxed like a local, walk slowly, don’t make a fuss, and smile at the officers, sometimes they won’t charge the fee. Well, it’s all about effort, right? If it works, it’s enough to buy a plate of snacks. But even if you have to pay, just think of it as a small contribution to maintain the beautiful nature of Kaliurang.
Oh, the best time to visit Kopi Merapi is morning or afternoon. Around 6–8 AM, Merapi is still clearly visible, not covered in fog yet. The air is also fresh. And the most important thing is that the shop is still not crowded. So you can have coffee while enjoying the tranquility and only accompanied by the sound of the wind and chirping birds.

If you love a natural atmosphere, warm coffee, and a non mainstream hangout spot, Warung Kopi Merapi will definitely become one of your favorite places too. Try it!
