Double Standards in Society: Why Traditions Still Hold Us Back

in Hive Learners2 days ago (edited)

If you use social media platforms, especially Instagram, you'll find different trends constantly changing. Most people follow Instagram, which helps their posts garner a good number of views and likes, but not everyone can do this. In many places, there are still strict laws for girls, while boys are given all the freedom. We often see double standards in society, but there are different traditions and social restrictions everywhere. Many people follow these traditions, while others oppose them. Sometimes, we find that social traditions, rules, and regulations restrict us from trying something new, and much more.

While some things are meant for our own good, we often see that once a child grows up, they have to go to college and then look for a job. Once they're settled, their family begins arranging for their marriage. Sometimes, some children find their own partners. However, sometimes, some people take steps that are against society, such as marrying outside their caste. In India, if you're from a middle-class or lower-middle-class family and marry outside your caste, it's considered a big deal. If you look closely, celebrities and wealthy individuals don't seem to care about these things. Sometimes, I feel like these rules are designed specifically for the younger generation, and their mindsets are shaped to make them overthink things, and they're preoccupied with all of this.

You've probably seen celebrities marrying or being in relationships with people much younger or older than themselves. If a common man were to do the same, he'd likely be met with a thousand questions, and this is where we see society's double standards. This is my personal opinion: if you're happy with both of you in a relationship, then you shouldn't worry about anything else. I have relatives who married outside their castes. Their families strongly opposed it, but they didn't listen because, in the end, they're both meant to be together. Society and family won't always be with you, but if you're happy with each other, then perhaps you shouldn't worry about anything else.

In many places in India, such conservative thinking exists, where people are severely restricted from marrying outside their castes, and if they elope and marry against their own choice, they face the consequences. Let's face it, we're willing to do anything to protect our honour. You've often seen in movies how people threaten each other's lives when it comes to their honour. And then, while a fight breaks out, it ends up leading to a fight. Any problem or issue can be resolved through discussion. Deciding anger will be detrimental to you.

I wouldn't say that we should oppose all the rules made in society or that they're all wrong. There are plenty of rules that are for the benefit of people, but you shouldn't change them to suit your own needs. You should follow them strictly. You often see people's lifestyles on Instagram or other social media platforms and start comparing yourself to them. You shouldn't do that because everyone is different, and you don't need to have the same qualities as them. Not everyone is half as beautiful or handsome, but everyone has some talent. So, without worrying about anything else, you should focus on yourself and work on your strengths, and then you'll inevitably end up becoming the wrong kind of person.

See, something new keeps happening in the trend all the time, if you keep running after all those things then perhaps your every wish will never be fulfilled, you will have to create some different status for your life and if you want to live a peaceful and happy life then if you believe me you should stay in solitude and are afraid of social media platforms, the more you stay away from all these things, the happier you will feel.

Marriage is indeed a big deal. I have seen some places also where family members don't even ask if the girl is ready to marry or not. I have seen many worse scenario and that forced me to think society is only for restriction without any logic.
