Presidents' Game

...they love playing it in the comforts of their mansions...

This is what I'm seeing with regards to what's currently happening in the world. Throughout history, the leaders have always been in their comfortable chairs, oftentimes giving commands as easy as moving a tiny chess piece on board. There were a lot of times too where the leaders would themselves fight in the frontline and they were regarded as the greatest in books.

In this era, it seems like making war is just another unserious fun time for the greedy leaders. Why wouldn't they? They're not the ones in the battlefield anyway.

Even worse in this digital age where we can see a lot of shit happening in real time that it feels like we are slowly getting desensitized by what's happening around us.

This idea is presented in a gaming livestreaming manner. The commanders in chief play games while the whole world is watching - even the other leaders are not doing anything about it.

The gamers are drawn in a cartoonish way depicting them being surrounded with positivity and fun colors... all while the games they're playing is as real as fucking Unreal engine 5 hyper realistic bodycam 240 fps in 8K.

And the world is divided. Some don't support it, some do. Which doesn't fucking make sense.

Who supports genocide??? A question I never thought we'd still ask in this day and age.

Process

I started with a general sketch of what the visuals might look like. I wanted to make it realistic but also still painterly. Genre of the game is horror because, well, the concept is horror.

I used the game Chuxie as my main reference lol which what I played a few months ago. I drew the environment flatly and just added the shadows later.

Then finalizing the background.

I added the drawing of the figure and the first person shooter arm. I chose white both for aesthetic and conceptual purposes.

Then added the camera and random stuff on screen.

And the finished piece. Some troll comments like those can really be found on some social media posts btw, so they're not exaggerated.

This is really thoughtful and to me, feels like it works with the absurdity of the time we find ourselves in.

It makes me, and I'm not sure why, think of the snippets of film (the original 35mm transparency) that were sold to people frame by frame of famous movies, or individual cells of animation.

Then it makes me think of the absurd world we could live in if every frame of every video was a NFT, available for sale. I see this as the sort of work that could very much go on a real gallery wall, in a real gallery.

The only problem is people wouldn't "get it".

I like making these kinds of works where it looks ridiculous or somehow even offensive at one glance but if you understand it all then it would make sense. For sure some people wouldn't get it but it's a chance for them to think. :D

Damn really?? I didn't know this.

It is somehow happening actually. Not NFT but through subscriptions. Before we can buy games and movies and we are able to replay it whenever we like as long as we still have it and still works. Now you have to pay every month... and sometimes they can even lock you out of your account despite you paying for it for $50! Insane.

Thank you! I really would love to see this in a gallery wall someday, maybe in a traditional medium even.

The rabbit hole on animation cells probably goes way deeper than you realise:

I hate software subscriptions so much. I hated MMOs for the same reason. I shouldn't say this out aloud, or in text, but... imagine paying per frame generated on your GPU, instead of buying the bloody thing.

The future is bleak.

We will own nothing, but I don't think we will be happy. :)

People have just become selfish, "oh that doesn't bother me so why care?", this is speeding up over time since the last 30-40 years expecially

For the leaders normal people are just insects, since when you care about insects?

I like the references in the comments on last screen lol
