I have been having this feeling for the past some days now that I have been wanting to share this. And it all happened like this, in my office some time ago, that really taught me a strong lesson about honesty. One of our colleagues a friendly guy that everybody liked got himself into a big mess, don't even know why he took such action. He was secretly trying to ask out one of the boss’s wives in the same office we are maybe due they are close, she use to help her with some errands. Nobody knew at first until things got exposed.
It all started when some people in the office began to notice and hearing rumors, but nobody believed it. Then one day, the truth came out. The woman had a voice note from WhatsApp where he was talking to her, trying to ask her for a date in such a disrespectful manners The leader in the office found out and things just exploded. Everybody was shocked because we didn’t expect such from him.
When he was called to explain himself, instead of admitting to what he did, he kept denying it. Even with the voice note evidence, it makes most of us very furious about it, we should have not been able to listen to the voice note for whole people in the office, but the voice was played to all of because he is denying it. It was sad to watch because at that point, everybody already knew the truth. In the end, he was expelled from the office. It was a very painful situation for everyone, especially those who were close to him cos he put them in shame.
That day, I learned that sometimes it’s not even the mistake that destroys a person it’s the refusal to admit to error or the offence you commit. We are all human; we make wrong choices sometimes. But when you get caught, the best thing is to be honest and own up. People might still be angry, but they will respect your truth.
Lying only makes things worse to me. Once trust is broken, it’s very hard and take years to build it again. Since that day, I promised myself to always take responsibility for my actions, no matter how hard it feels.
In life, nobody is perfect. But when you fall, be humble enough to admit it. That’s what separates honest people from the proud ones.
