Hello everyone, Otaku friends of The Anime Realm, I hope you are all doing great today and have lots of energy. This time I want to bring you another review with my personal opinions. I just finished watching "Blue Period" and... wow, if you haven't checked this anime out yet, you're missing out on a gem! At its core, "Blue Period" is about transformation, about change... it tells the story of Yatora, a high school boy who on the outside seems to know what to do with his life, but on the inside he feels empty, like a zombie in the daily routine. Have you ever felt like you're on autopilot, without a real purpose? Well, that's how Yatora starts... suddenly, boom! He discovers art and it's like his head explodes with colors in a black and white world, that's when the spark ignites, all that desire, those passions that he had stored away, and he sets out to fulfill his dream of entering one of the most prestigious art universities in Japan... what blew my mind the most about "Blue Period" is how it shows you that explosion of emotions when you find something that fills your soul, yes or no? Do you remember the first time you got excited about a hobby or an art that made you vibrate?

The same thing happens to Yatora, and the anime transmits it to you in every second... his change is not from one day to the next, but a little by little, real process, that touches your heart, it made me think about my own experiences, when I realized that I had something to show the world, and that personal connection made the series reach me a lot more. And speaking of connection, I have to talk about the adaptation... normally, I don't care much when they adapt a manga that I love to anime, but here you can see that the director truly loves art, the animated version doesn't just copy the manga, it improves it a lot, in my opinion, of course. Every scene looks like a painting done with love, with details and textures that catch you at the touch... I happened to have to pause a thousand times to admire the direction, seeing details that perhaps you didn't even see in the manga... you can see that the team of this anime didn't just want to copy, but to pay a true tribute, to do justice to the original manga.

Hola a todos, amigos Otakus de The Anime Realm, espero que hoy estén súper bien, y con mucha energía, en esta ocasión les quiero traer otra reseña con mis opiniones personales, acabo de terminar de ver "Blue Period" y... wow, si todavía no le has dado una mirada a este anime, te estás perdiendo una joyita! en el fondo, "Blue Period" va de la transformación, del cambio.. nos cuenta la historia de Yatora, un chico de la secundaria que por fuera parece que sabe qué hacer con su vida, pero por dentro se siente vacío, como un zombie en la rutina diaria. ¿Les ha pasado alguna vez sentir que están como en piloto automático, sin un propósito real? Bueno, así arranca Yatora.. de repente, ¡pum!, descubre el arte y es como si le explotara la cabeza de colores en un mundo blanco y negro, ahí se le prende la chispa, todas esas ganas, esas pasiones que tenía guardadas, y se manda de cabeza a cumplir su sueño de entrar a una de las universidades de arte más prestigiosas de Japón.. lo que más me voló la cabeza de "Blue Period" es cómo te muestra esa explosión de emociones cuando encuentras algo que te llena el alma, ¿sí o no? ¿Se acuerdan la primera vez que se emocionaron con un hobby o con un arte que los hizo vibrar?

A Yatora le pasa eso mismo, y el anime te lo transmite en cada segundo.. su cambio no es de un día para otro, sino un proceso de a poquito, real, que te toca el corazón, a mí me hizo pensar en mis propias experiencias, cuando me di cuenta que tenía algo para mostrarle al mundo, y esa conexión personal hizo que la serie me llegara un montón más. Y hablando de conexión, tengo que hablar de la adaptación.. normalmente, no me importa mucho cuando adaptan un manga que amo a anime, pero acá se nota que el director ama el arte de verdad, la versión animada no solo copia el manga, lo mejora un montón, en mi opinión, por supuesto. Cada escena parece una pintura hecha con amor, con unos detalles y texturas que te atrapan al toque.. me pasó de tener que pausar mil veces para admirar la dirección, viendo detalles que quizás en el manga ni los veías.. se nota que el equipo de este anime no quería solo copiar, sino hacerle un verdadero tributo, que le haga justicia al manga original.

One of the things I liked most about this series is how they use color, it becomes like an important symbol throughout the story... and mind you, it's not just because it looks pretty. It gets straight to the point with Picasso's Blue Period! Those years when Picasso painted everything in those melancholic blue tones, that transmitted sadness, loneliness, that vibe of thinking a lot about oneself... well, in the anime, blue is not just another color put there for no reason, it's like a visual way of showing all those complex emotions that Yatora and the other characters have... Every time you see those deep, half-dark blues, you remember that internal struggle they have, between passion and desperation, between the desire to achieve something big and the uncertainty of whether they will achieve it... it's almost as if the color itself tells you the story, it makes you feel that mix of frustration, melancholy, and from time to time, a spark of hope there in the middle of the darkness, and it's that in this series, art is not just a theme, it goes much further! It's the language the characters use to say all those things that sometimes don't come out with words...

The painted images... more illustrations... it's not just a pretty background to put there, it's almost like seeing Yatora's inner world made into an image, and don't even mention the portrait of Yatora's mother, those are the scenes... they're not just there to make the anime look cool or different, they're meant to use art as a form of communication, to explore who the characters are and what they feel in a way that goes beyond the superficial... it leaves you thinking, how many times have we used art to hide what we really feel, or the other way around, to show those deep truths that we carry inside?

But it also dares to throw a few darts at the art world, the anime shows you, in a subtle but powerful way, how art is taught in academies, suggesting that sometimes, with so many rules and so many expectations, they end up turning off creativity instead of turning it on. Yatora's fight is not only to learn to draw well, but to go against a system that prefers everyone to be the same instead of letting each one be unique. And that criticism seemed interesting to me, because it makes you think about something bigger: whether you are an artist or not, we all face that challenge of freeing ourselves from what society, family, etc. expect of us. It is a reflection that is naturally put into the story, inviting you to question how things that have always been done in a certain way can sometimes slow down our creative potential.

Una de las cosas que más me gustó de esta serie es cómo usan el color, se vuelve como un símbolo importante en toda la historia.. y ojo, que no es solo porque se vea bonito ¡Va directo al grano con el Periodo Azul de Picasso! Esos años en que Picasso pintaba todo con esos tonos azules melancólicos, que te transmitían tristeza, soledad, esa onda de pensar mucho en uno mismo.. vueno, en el anime, el azul no es un color más puesto ahí porque sí, es como una forma visual de mostrar todas esas emociones complejas que tienen Yatora y los otros personajes.. Cada vez que ves esos azules profundos, medio oscuros, te acuerdas de esa lucha interna que tienen, entre la pasión y la desesperación, entre las ganas de llegar a algo grande y la incertidumbre de si lo van a lograr.. es casi como si el color mismo te contara la historia, te hace sentir esa mezcla de frustración, melancolía, y de vez en cuando, una chispa de esperanza ahí en medio de la oscuridad, y es que en esta serie, el arte no es solo un tema, ¡va mucho más allá! Es el idioma que usan los personajes para decir todo eso que a veces con palabras no sale..

Las imágenes pintadas.. más ilustraciones.. no es solo un fondo lindo para poner ahí, es casi como ver el mundo interior de Yatora hecho imagen, y ni hablar del retrato de la mamá de Yatora, son esas escenas.. no están puestas solo para que el anime se vea cool o diferente, están pensadas para usar el arte como una forma de comunicación, para explorar quiénes son los personajes y qué sienten de una manera que va más allá de lo superficial.. te deja pensando ¿Cuántas veces hemos usado el arte para esconder lo que sentimos de verdad, o al revés, para mostrar esas verdades profundas que llevamos dentro?

Pero también se anima a tirar un par de dardos al mundo del arte, el anime te muestra, de forma sutil pero potente, cómo se enseña arte en las academias, sugiriendo que a veces, con tanta regla y tanta expectativa, terminan apagando la creatividad en vez de encenderla.. la pelea de Yatora no es solo por aprender a dibujar bien, sino por ir contra un sistema que prefiere que todos sean iguales en vez de dejar que cada uno sea único. Y esa crítica me pareció interesante, porque te hace pensar en algo más grande: seas artista o no, todos nos enfrentamos a ese desafío de liberarnos de lo que esperan de nosotros la sociedad, la familia, etc.. es una reflexión que se mete ahí en la historia de forma natural, invitándote a cuestionar cómo las cosas que siempre se hicieron de una manera a veces pueden frenar nuestro potencial creativo.

And then there's the ton of art references you find everywhere in the series. For someone who's always been into art history, like me, those nods to famous techniques, legendary artists, and iconic works were like finding little hidden gems! whether they throw in a reference to a classic oil painting or a subtle homage to an artistic movement that changed everything, each reference makes watching each episode cooler, like a mini art appreciation class... it's that attention to detail that makes "Blue Period" stand out from other series, it invites you not only to enjoy the story, but also to explore that world of art that is huge and really fascinating...

But the anime not only shows you the beauty of the creative process, it also puts you face to face with the harsh reality of being an artist, it shows you without a filter the chaos and stress that is experienced when one decides to go down the path of art: sleepless nights, creative blocks that frustrate you a lot, and that constant fear of not being good enough. But in the midst of all that mess, you always see that giant love for art that moves everything... seeing Yatora fall and get up, facing his own mistakes and still moving forward with all his desire, is truly inspiring... it teaches you that becoming great is almost never easy, and that every time you fall it's just one more step to get where you want to go. I felt connected to each of his achievements, I felt that every time he won something, it was as if I was winning a little bit too.

Y hay que hablar del montón de referencias al arte que te encuentras por todos lados en la serie, para alguien que siempre le ha gustado la historia del arte, como a mí, esos guiños a técnicas famosas, artistas que son leyendas y obras icónicas, ¡fueron como encontrarme pequeñas joyitas escondidas! ya sea que te tiren una referencia a una pintura al óleo de las clásicas o un homenaje sutil a un movimiento artístico que lo cambió todo, cada referencia hace que ver cada capítulo sea más chévere, como una mini clase de apreciación del arte.. es que esa atención a los detalles es lo que la destaca de "Blue Period" y la diferencia de otras series, te invita no solo a disfrutar la historia, sino también a explorar ese mundo del arte que es gigante y re fascinante..

Pero el anime no solo te muestra lo lindo del proceso creativo, también te planta de frente la cruda realidad de ser artista, te muestra sin filtro el caos y el estrés que se vive cuando uno decide ir por el camino del arte: noches sin dormir, bloqueos creativos que te frustran un montón, y ese miedo constante de no ser lo suficientemente bueno. Pero en medio de todo ese lío, siempre se ve ese amor gigante por el arte que lo mueve todo.. ver a Yatora caerse y levantarse, enfrentando sus propios errores y aun así seguir adelante con todas las ganas, es de verdad inspirador.. te enseña que para llegar a ser grande casi nunca es fácil, y que cada vez que te caes es solo un pasito más para llegar a donde quieres, yo me sentí conectado con cada logro suyo, sentía que cada vez que él ganaba algo, era como si yo también estuviera ganando un poquito.

I know what you’re thinking right now: “Yeah, that sounds nice, but does it really get to you, does it touch your heart?” I’m telling you, yeah, totally. I never thought an anime about art would connect with me so much. It made me think a lot about my own creative ideas and those times when I felt trapped by what others expected of me… there were times while watching it that I wondered if I was really living my life or just following a path that was already marked out. In that sense, the anime is not only about art, but also about having the balls, the courage, to go for what makes you truly happy, even if that means going against the grain.. so, if you are there doubting whether to give "Blue Period" a chance, I highly recommend it, it is a roller coaster of emotions, a feast for the eyes and a sincere look at what it means to go after your dreams in a world that sometimes seems to not care about anything. I would give this series a 8.5/10.. obviously, there are parts where the pace drops a little or some things are left unfinished, but they are minimal details in a work that, in general, is a gem..

What really matters is the heart and soul that is put into each episode, something that is seen less and less today, it is not just another anime of the bunch, it is an experience that challenges you to look inside, to accept your passions and to celebrate that crazy and beautiful process of creating.. it is a series that will make you laugh, cry and, above all, feel vivo.. is an invitation to break the rules, to look beyond what is expected of you and to find, in the midst of problems, that spark of genius that only art can give you. Sé lo que están pensando ahora mismo: “Sí, suena bien, ¿pero de verdad te llega, te toca el corazón?” te digo, sí, totalmente, jamás pensé que un anime sobre arte iba a conectar tanto conmigo, me hizo pensar un montón en mis propias ideas creativas y en esas veces que me sentí atrapado por lo que esperaban los demás de mí.. hubo momentos viéndolo que me pregunté si estaba viviendo mi vida de verdad o solo siguiendo un camino que ya estaba marcado. En ese sentido, el anime no solo habla de arte, sino también de tener los huevos, el coraje, de ir por lo que te hace feliz de verdad, aunque eso signifique ir contra la corriente.. así que, si estás ahí dudando si darle una oportunidad a "Blue Period", te lo recomiendo mucho, es una montaña rusa de emociones, un festín para los ojos y una mirada sincera a lo que significa ir tras tus sueños en un mundo que a veces parece que le da igual todo.Yo le daría a esta serie un 8.5/10.. obvio, hay partes donde el ritmo baja un poco o quedan algunas cositas sin cerrar, pero son detalles mínimos en una obra que, en general, es una joya..

Lo que de verdad importa es el corazón y el alma que le pone a cada episodio, algo que hoy en día se ve cada vez menos, no es solo un anime más del montón, es una experiencia que te reta a mirar para adentro, a aceptar tus pasiones y a celebrar ese proceso loco y hermoso de crear.. es una serie que te va a hacer reír, llorar y, sobre todo, sentirte vivo.. es una invitación a romper las reglas, a buscar más allá de lo que se espera de ti y a encontrar, en medio de los problemas, esa chispa de genialidad que solo el arte te puede dar.
