When I first started watching this, I honestly thought it would follow the path where the male MC would end up with the girl, but it was also a refreshing change that instead of romance, both leading characters ended up with a friend/good neighbor/companion type of relationship, they did go through a lot together but again, it doesn't have to lead to romance.
Of course the fantasy, folklore and story was fascinating and great, especially how they portrayed the mysticism of the supernatural in nature and giving credit how industrialization can be good.
