800 meters from the entrance of Prambanan temple, there is a very large temple located the furthest from the main temple. This is where I saw the second largest temple as a Buddhist temple that still exists today in Indonesia. Sewu Temple, which is famous for its Buddha statues that you will never find anywhere else.

The entrance behind me, there are 2 Buddha statues facing each other holding swords and bending one leg to prepare. This is the Sewu temple site in Sleman and is a temple built during the Mataram kingdom in the 8th century AD and still exists today even though it is under repair.

Almost all the buildings outside the main door are like a collection of damaged rocks, indeed since the big earthquake that hit Yogyakarta and reached Sleman, this temple can no longer be repaired, only the main temples have survived until now. Likewise with the 2 Buddha statues, still standing even though their swords are broken.

If you look at the stone ruins located in the yard and also its history, there are 249 buildings in the Sewu temple. It's really big, isn't it?

That afternoon while walking around I only saw a few people coming, unlike the Prambanan temple which was filled with a sea of people. This temple is not that popular, just like the other 2 temples. So, I think if you have a good opportunity to come to the Prambanan temple complex, stop by for a while to see the Sewu temple and 2 other temples which are no less interesting and even their history is quite unique.

This Sewu temple is famous because it is a Buddhist temple that is not influence by Hinduism. This proves that there is harmony between religious communities in Indonesia, because the Sewu temple and Prambanan temple are right next to each other. They live in harmony even though they are in the same complex.

That afternoon, while looking at the twilight, I breathed in the air at the Sewu temple while imagining how magnificent this temple was in the past, long before the earthquake destroyed the building. How great they can make a building with a stone structure and so strong that it has survived until now.

Candi Sewu is a witness to the history of Buddhism that developed in Indonesia. One of the ancestral heritages that must be guarded and maintained so that it lasts for hundreds of years to come. I hope anyone who comes here can keep their hands from damaging and moving anything from its place.

One spot that I like the most, the two guardian Buddha statues in front of this. I even kept taking pictures and capturing beautiful moments here.

See you the next time hive friends!
