An Evening in Geneva
If I don’t write this about my recent trip to Switzerland I will forget about a few things so I better do it. I took a bit of a break from writing because it always helps. I was a bit busy at work also and in the remaining time I was reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, which I highly recommend, but that’s a different post :)
Back to Geneva. I stayed only for a night in Geneva and I was dead tired so I didn’t get to see much of the city and mostly stayed near my hotel. I stayed at the Ruby Claire Hotel which was rather interesting.
I stayed at the top floor and I had a rooftop. That was my view from the rooftop. For those who have been to Geneva before you know that is Cathédrale Saint-Pierre Genève. What a spectacular view I said, as soon I got into the room and opened my door to the balcony or rather rooftop.
The room was tiny, even in the European standards, but the balcony makes up for it. After a bit of rest and shower I went out towards Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. It was late at night and everything but the restaurants in the neighborhood were closed. However I lived the walk and old town in the quiet.

That is a walk on Rue du Perron and Hôtel Les Armures, which is this beautiful charming hotel where I had dinner. Note to myself, next time I am stay here.
Right past it is the cathedral and the plaza. Completely empty at this late evening. I aimlessly walked around here for a bit soaking in the evening. I keep on thinking to myself, it’s just a 12 hrs flight for me and why I don’t come here more often! This could easily be a weekend trip if I am just staying in town!
Another note to self, got to try out this Japanese restaurant here, it got some incredible reviews.
Soon, I couldn’t keep my eyes open and had a flight to catch in the AM so, it was time to head back to my hotel and end the trip on a note that I need to come back soon. I loved Geneva.
Yes, it's only 12 hours away, what's stopping you!! Europe is lovely!☺️
I had to Google Project Hail Mary as I'm not much of a reader. Sci fi isn't my cup of tea, but reading your convo with Bozz, I like Ryan Gosling a lot since Drive and Ides of March, maybe I'll watch the movie when it comes out
Yeah, I need to quit working and put two of my daughters in residential school :)
That’s what is stopping me.
The movie will be released on March 26, 2026. The book is superlative, better than Martian, his previous book, which was also turned into a successful movie.
Space is a premium in Geneva! I think I would have slept outside on the balcony :)
Beautiful city. I thought it would be more modern, but I just discovered the city is 2000 years old. And, I guess it is more intact than many European cities that suffered through WWII...neutrality has its benefits, doesn't it?
Here is the room! This is wide angle lens..
Yes, clearly a city that hadn't seen the war.
It's a good thing you pack light :))
Project Hail Mary is fantasic. Do you listen to audiobooks or read the physical copy? We listened to the audiobook on a road trip and loved it. I'm so looking forward to the movie.
Geneva looks beautiful and quaint. Was this your favorite stop of the trip?
Mostly audiobooks these days!
Wow! What a breathtaking view from your rooftop! 😍 That cathedral is so amazing ✨ There's something so peaceful about walking through a beautiful old city at night with no one around 💕
Views were better.
Wow... How good that he was able to write about his recent visit to Switzerland and his passages through Geneva.
The streets look very colonial and contemporary, although the hotel room is small, they are tiny things, for which I leave the city as a profit in the plane of being, being and living fully.
The cathedral looks very beautiful, in its nineteenth century style, I fell in love, I really can't imagine inside how it should be, I hope you have entered and enjoyed the architecture.
And well friend, maybe I have a great challenge to travel 12 hours of flights, but everything you enjoyed, you leave happy, with a smile and delighted with what you experienced. And that it is worth going again, so that you can enjoy a good weekend and thus enter the adventures of the city.
Thank you for sharing your experience friend 🙌🙌🙌
A big hug and kiss in the distance 😘😘😘
No I didn't get to go inside. Only stayed there one evening and left with the first daylight.
How bad, surely that impression of the city left you with consequences of returning... I hope you can get to know that architecture, from what I have researched and that inside is a marvel
Thank you, best regards 😊😊😊
Everything looks so small, for some reason I thought Geneva would be bigger like Paris :)
It is rather compact for sure.
I see they made project hail Mary into a movie. I was trying to get a hold of the book, but it was too expensive and too in demand to check out. I will probably just end up reading it later. Geneva looks pretty magical.
I have audible. So I get one book free a month. I think it's $14/month
Genève is indeed pretty.
Ah, my wife does audiobooks, but I kind of hate listening to people talk, so I am not sure I would be able to handle that. We did listen to Green Lights on our way down to Hocking Hills Ohio one year, but it helped that Matthew McConaughy was reading it.
Listen to your wife :)
There is a revolution in audiobook industry. These are not just reading by a old guy :)
This is nearly a theatre experience.
I've listened to some of hers, but she listens to them so fast that they sounds robotic and fake.
I only listen to normal speed. I have no rush.
Thank you for sharing your stay in Geneva. There are beautiful photos that give an air of tranquility and peace.
Best regards.
Thank you. I loved Geneva!
