#WednesdayWalk Around The Barbican Estate, London.

in Worldmappin2 months ago

Hello walkers of Hive!

I took a walk around the Barbican. This epic brutalist designed complex was built in .

I love the combination of raw concrete finish to the exterior and the individual elements seemingly holding up the blocks.

The entrance is set back from the main high street. The conservatory hosting a sub-tropical garden (similar to Kew Gardens) is visible, it is open to the public on most days of the week.

Walking south east along the road outside of the area reveals an unapologetic concrete wall and structure.

Walking in through a small gap in the wall from the south west corner, this side is publicly accessible. A central lake and church is found here.

Also found in the area are ruins of ancient Roman walls built in 120 AD, protecting London from Saxon attacks

Tastefully built around and set within private gardens for residents, evidence of turrets with stairways

The wall from the other side of the estate after walking along the road towards the Museum Of London. The ruins of this section of the wall are quite thin but reasonably intact with stairwells and other features visible.
