Again at Helfštýn

in Worldmappin5 days ago (edited)

This isn’t the first time (and probably won’t be the last) that I’m sharing some photos of Helfštýn Castle, one of the largest castle ruins in the Czech Republic.

From Lipník nad Bečvou heading toward Ostrava, there’s a wide valley called the “Moravian Gate.” At its southern end, the mighty medieval Helfštýn Castle has stood guard for centuries.

I won’t bore you with dry historical facts about who built the castle, who owned it, or who lost it. If you’re curious, you can easily look it up on Wikipedia. Instead, let’s enjoy the views from the palace roof, admire the vaulted gates, massive towers, and thick stone walls.

During the season, Helfštýn hosts a variety of cultural events and is a popular destination for tourists – or travelers, depending on how you see yourself. For me, I’m neither tourist nor traveler here; I actually feel more like a local. After all, I can see Helfštýn right from the balcony of my apartment.

Even though I’ve been to Helfštýn so many times I could probably be a tour guide, and even though I know every corner of it inside out with nothing really new to discover, I never get tired of it. Just sitting on a bench in one of the courtyards, closing your eyes, listening to the whispers that echo between the stone walls and the branches overhead—the atmosphere of this ancient medieval castle does the rest.

Just a week ago, I published an article from Helfštýn about a military history festival, and maybe by the end of summer, you’ll get a report from the Hefaiston blacksmith gathering. You’re not going to get rid of Helfštýn around here that easily 😁

Není to poprvé (a snad ani naposled), co vám přináším několik fotek hradu Helfštýna, jedné z největších hradních zřícenin v Česku.

Nebudu zde vypisovat nudná historická data, kdo hrad postavil, kdo ho kdy koupil a kdo o něj přišel.

It seems like you have some experiences and memories in that place. Did you enjoy the military festival held there? or maybe you have plans to revisit the castle or other interesting places around Helfštýn.

Tak já už tě straším v myšlenkách? No to jsem to dopracoval :-D

To víš, nejsem v around pravidelným hostem. Je potřeba mě vystrašit, abych se zúčastnil 😁😁

Bububu už na tebe dělat nebudu :-)

Greetings friend, the castle is very beautiful, that roof top is well made, infact, all parts of the building is nice. Many interesting photos from you, have a wonderful day.

The photos are impressive, I would like to visit that castle too, both the walls and the architecture are fantastic.

Haaa haaa this is the first time I've seen your posts about Helfstyne and the photos that you've captured of the castle just don't do it justice and you've just whet my appetite for more, so now I'm going to have to read the wiki article on it- or just come there and see it for myself! 🤣

Thanks so much for sharing this gorgeous- and mysterious spot and I look forward to seeing more of your posts about Helfstyn! 😃
