We went to the small town of Penela, which has a beautiful castle and other little things to offer, but the heart of tourism is this beautiful castle, so if you want to immerse yourself in a medieval atmosphere, this destination is perfect for you.

• El día de hoy quiero compartirles un nuevo destino en Portugal, nos fuimos al pequeño pueblo de Penela que tiene un hermoso castillo y otras pequeñas cosas para ofrecer, pero el corazón del turismo es este hermoso castillo, así que si quieres entrar en un aire de época medieval este destino es perfecto para ti.

• It is a small town located in the district of Coimbra. According to online records, the last census recorded 3,300 inhabitants, which gives you an idea of how small it is. It is located in northern Portugal, so the climate tends to be a little colder than in the capital. As we can see, it is surrounded by natural and historical landscapes. Access is very limited. To visit, you have to take a bus from Coimbra or go by car. Unfortunately, these are the only means of transportation.

• One of the things I did before visiting the castle was to venture into one of its mountains, where I found this beautiful river, which is surely even more beautiful in winter when the water is more abundant. When I visited this place, it was summer, and I also found crab remains, so I'm not sure if we can see crabs here or if someone left the remains there. I think it was someone who left crab remains in the area, since they normally live on beaches. I also visited the village church, São Miguel, which was closed when I arrived, but according to information, this church was built in 1137.

• Es un pequeño pueblo localizado en el distrito de Coimbra según los registros de internet el último registro de habitantes fue de 3.300 así de pequeño estamos hablando, está ubicada hacia el norte Portugal, así que el clima suele un poco más frío que en la capital, como podemos observar está rodeado de paisajes naturales e histórico. Los accesos son muy limitados, para visitarlo tiene que ser en un bus que sale desde Coimbra o en, coche; lastimosamente, son los únicos medios de transporte.

• Una de las cosas que hice antes de visitar el castillo fue adentrarme en una de sus montañas y encontré este hermoso río que seguramente se ve más precioso en la época de invierno que es más abundante el agua, cuando yo visite este lugar fue en verano, también encontré restos de cangrejo así que no estoy segura si aquí podemos ver cangrejos o alguien dejo los restos ahí, me parece que fue una persona que dejo restos de cangrejo en la zona, ya que normalmente ellos habitan en las playas. También visité la iglesia del pueblo que es São Miguel que se encontraba cerrada en la hora que llegué, pero según las informaciones, esta iglesia fue construida en el año 1137.

• It is no secret that this land was visited several times by the Romans attempting to invade Portugal. This town was no exception; it needed defenses to protect its territory. Thus, this castle was born. This medieval defense was founded in the 11th century by D. Sesnando Davides, who was governor of the southern territory at that time. As we can see, it has a medieval design with defensive walls around 19 meters high. It used to have three entrances, but one of them was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. Another interesting fact about this castle is that it was declared a national monument in 1910.

🏰EL CASTILLO DE PENELA.🏰

• No es una novedad que esta tierra fue visitada varias veces por los romanos intentando invadir el territorio de Portugal. Este pueblo no se quedó atrás, tenía que tener defensivas para proteger el territorio. Así nació este castillo. Fue fundada esta defensiva medieval en el siglo XI, fundada por D. Sesnando Davides que fue gobernador del territorio del sur en aquellos tiempos. Como podemos observar, tienen un diseño medieval con unos muros de defensiva de alrededor de 19 metros. Antiguamente, tenía tres entradas, pero debido al terremoto de 1755, una de ellas fue destruida. Otro dato curioso de este castillo es que fue considerado un monumento nacional en 1910.
