Fiction: Magic Water

In Aamukoko village, there was a woman who had been married for a decade without a fruit of the womb. A woman of virtue, a decent person for that matter.

Soliloquy.
Hey, look at the way this woman is playing with her baby. It's like the baby is mine. I would have to care for her. God, have mercy on me to enable me to get my own baby. If I have one, that means I have my roots in my husband's house. I don't know the next move of my in-laws now. They have been mounting pressure on me, because of the lack of babies in our union.

Suddenly, there was a tap on her shoulder. It was Mr. Wale, her husband. “What is the matter with you my lovely wife? What are you thinking? I have been here for some minutes now. Calling your name but no response from you.” Mr Wale said.

Susan burst into a cry.
“ Hmmm, how I will not be thinking about my childlessness. It is ten solid years now. You know the pressure I am facing from your people. Although, I appreciate your support all this time, you are a man. I will not know the time you will have babies outside. “What is going to be my gain after another woman has a baby for you? He who has a baby is the owner of the husband.”

Says who? How can you have negative thoughts about me? I can't leave you in this situation. As per my family, I will know how to deal with them. This is my family and no one will dictate what to do for me. We are in this battle, we will fight together and I believe in God, he will answer our prayers. I know very soon, you will conceive and have babies of your own. Said Mr. Wale.

However, the following day. There was a send-off party for one of Mr. Wale’s senior colleagues at the event center. Mr. Wale was flanked by his wife, and everyone was having fun, but Susan was muted, and she did not contribute to their conversation, and despite all the jokes thrown at her, she didn't respond to them. Then, one woman among them called her aside to ask for the exact thing that was troubling her mind. She confided in her.

“Hmmm, thank you for being concerned, I have considered it for ten years of my marriage and I am worried about it. You know our men are not predictable. They can do anything. What is going to be gained in the end?” Susan said.

The woman exclaimed.
Oh! No wonder, I feel for you. It is worth thinking about, especially because of our in-laws. You know what, I suggest drinking magic water, and I pray that it works for you. Many people shared testimonies after drinking the magic water.

Excitement comes in.
“Really, you mean what you are saying? If I take the water, my story will change. I will give it a try to bring the magic water. But, how can I get it?” Susan asked.

The woman said, "Don't worry yourself, I will take you to the place where you are going to get it. The magic water does not only work for childbearing alone, but it also works for other things. It depends on what you want to use it for. Whatever you ask when you are drinking magic water. It shall come to pass. Provided that you believe in it.

When she got home, she called Mr. Wale and narrated the whole story to him to know his reaction to it. Mr. Wale said, it is okay, if she said we are going to get what we want. I am in.

After she got the magic water, she was drinking it with the consent of her husband. Nevertheless, she was not feeling fine after some time and her husband suggested visiting the hospital for a medical check-up. She agreed to go.

When they got to the hospital, the doctor conducted some tests and he congratulated them. Madam, you are four weeks gone.

What is the meaning of what you are saying doctor? I don't get it. Susan asked.

Doctor cuts in.
“Oh, I mean you are pregnant. Congratulations once again.”

Both of them looked at each other and embraced themselves. So, it is not over yet. We can have a baby in our home. Thank you Lord.

That is how magic water liberated them from barrenness and they had a baby.
