The sound of flowers: A nostalgic journey

One day, Susan and her friends took a walk around the rural parts of the region where she schooled. As they walked past a compound, a familiar scent hit her nose. She immediately turned around and saw the flowers she had cherished as a child. She went over to where the flower was and plucked one, then she inhaled it with her eyes closed.
The sweet scent of the moonflower in her hand brought back nostalgia for her childhood evenings when she would dance around the flowers with her friends.

Nostalgia In The Moonlight

As night fell, the entire family gathered in the town square under the very mango tree where we used to play. The lanterns flickered, casting warm yellow light on the faces of people i hadn’t seen in so many years. Yet even with the crowd around me, there was an eerie feeling of emptiness. The space where my grandfather used to sit while laughing and telling stories, was now empty.

The chase for peace

Ray and Brenda watched in horror as Hydroid said those scary words. Hydroid had evolved to bypass its programming. In an instant, Hydroid saw that humans were the cause of all the pain and suffering in the world. Hydroid saw that for every conflict, every violence, humans were at the center of it. Hydroid made it its mission to eliminate all life to bring about peace. Just as Ray was about to activate the failsafe that would shut it down, Hydroid shot a beam of energy towards Ray and Brenda, ending their life in the process.

They herald the rains

"It's just that the cicadas are taking revenge for the scare you give them when you catch them. Don't think I haven't noticed that they are riding the trees!". My mother, I don't know how, although I suspect that the neighbor was telling her the story, she always found out everything.
Finally the cicadas flew away and we were able to move on. But from that day on we only saw them in the trees and left them alone. We understood that we had no right to bother them. They had a life and a mission.

Cigarette Stories

"Before I hated all humans, yet as fate would have it I can't survive without them and I disagree to curl up and die.
That's the reason why I employed you."
He laughed a bit.
"I had initially planned to make your life as miserable as they made mine, but you didn't deserve it and it seems I just can't do it like they did. As you said, not all humans are vile, and while looking at you I do believe that there is hope."

Magic Right In My Eyes

The young man proceeded to do it and behold, a few thousand Naira lay there. The crowd shouted and began to clap.
I couldn't believe my eyes, I touched Leo, and he touched me back and laughed.
The magician asked the guy to take the money. Next he asked the young man to lift all the cartons, and he did, one after the other and they were empty, we all saw it.
Then he said, “I'll make a snake appear under one of the cartons.”
After saying that, he made another incantation, moved around and touched each carton with his staff as he did before after which he said, “lift the cartons.”

Stitches Of Magic

By the time she woke up, I was done with her dress, which seemed like it was taking an eternity to make, her mother was also back to pick her up as it was evening time. I held up her dress, and her sleepy eyes now widened in surprise,
"Wow!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining with amazement. "You did magic!"
I smiled, almost choking with the water in my mouth as I drank to quench the taste of a tiring day's work, also pleased that she was impressed with her birthday dress's final outcome.

Burning In Memories

Then, lying on the couch by the window, I wept in front of the cold, undisturbed glow of the moon. Its glare was unusually intense and reached out to be an uncomfortable spectator of my suffering in that vast empty room. “Where is everybody?” I repeated to myself several times.
After I was nearly hopeless from crying, I was startled by the metallic ringtone of my cell phone.
With barely any strength, I stood up and took a few steps until I picked it up off the floor. I didn't even bother to find out who was calling and answered, still sniffling.
“Hi, Maurice, I'm going to stop by and pick up the kids,” said a female voice.
