Before I was

I open my eyes.
Not in the hospital room. Not in the previous time.
I open my eyes for the first time, new and fresh, taking my first breath in a universe of infinite possibility.

The Memories of Colourful Sundays

Sadly, that was in the time before. This sad chapter of our lives started when we got a devastating news that Aunty Sade died in a motor bike accident when she was coming back from work. The colours of Sundays faded, the sunflower by the gate wilted. We missed every bit of Aunty Sade, we prayed it was a dream but we later woke up to the reality of the life ahead of us.

A dream come true

My three friends, my friend and I got in and sat in the front and the middle of the curiara, and her dad was in the back driving the motor. The curiara moved under the dark and calm water of the river and on both sides we saw the impenetrable jungle and in the water the Bora plants with their floating leaves, sometimes covering the entire shore.

The Last Ship

I looked over to the ship, hopeful and praying. Maybe he was still on the ship. Maybe he would be amongst the last to come out. I watched as the last man stepped off the ship. I watched as the crowd began to thin. I watched as families walked away with their loved ones, laughter on their faces. I watched as joy began to fade from the dock, leaving the few remaining with pains in their hearts.

In the Time Before the shackles!

"When our first neighbouring village, Umudim, fell to slave raids, the truth could not be hidden anymore, about these people from the far West. They were not traders, they were takers. But we will fight them with everything we've got, and my father would ensure that every citizen of Amodu, the greatest kingdom of the East, is kept safe." He spoke with anger burning in his veins, and having known him intimately for seven years, I knew when he meant the word he said.

Ticket Rush

But the angry mob wasn't giving up. Like a scene from an action movie, two men jumped on other bikes in Vanna's workshop and chased after them.
Kamol stared at the ticket in his hands, still clenched tightly in his palms. The winds brushed hard against his face. The more miles crossed, the more the mob increased. Each mob wielding different weapons and trying to get the ticket off his hands. His only ticket out of poverty.
