Running is going to get your heart rate up more than cycling due to where you live. The stationary bike is my secret weapon as it helps me lose weight and can get me into shape far more quickly than running. I use a programmable bike and will choose difficult settings which I will ride for hours at a time losing a few kilograms on each ride. Any exercise is good for you as long as you enjoy it.

I find it amusing how much weight a person can lose in one exercise session. I routinely lose a kg or two when I go running and even more when I go running in the summer and sweat like mad.
