I welcome you to my blog. The period of the year we all looked forward to has come, and in a few days it will pass, and we will have to wait for another 11 months and 3 weeks to have a season like that come around again. The way we prepare for this Christmas season, sometimes it feels like the season will last for a month or two, but it's funny how it only lasts for two days and everyone is back to their normal routine like nothing at all happened. Some people start to prepare for the Christmas season 2 months before the big day, some one month. Once it is that time, people start to make plans and preparations for how they will spend the season and where they will spend it, and so many other preparations are put in place to make the season a memorable one like always.
The Christmas season comes with so much excitement for both adults and children, even though it comes with mixed emotions for so many adults because of the expenses they'd incur to make the season happen, but at least they will get time away from work and time to rest, while for kids it is full-time excitement as the adults in their life have them covered and they have nothing to worry about. The level of excitement that comes with the season makes us wish that Christmas should be celebrated twice a year, but that will cause it to lose its credibility. This season kids are full of excitement, and adults are worried and a bit excited at the same time.
Every Christmas holiday is spent with family and friends, as my parents made sure everyone comes home for Christmas; it was a tradition they made sure we practiced. Even sometimes when you don't feel like going home or you make the mistake of hinting to them that you might not make it home for Christmas, you will not know peace anymore, as every day the first thing they will do is to call and remind you how you are about to break a tradition that they practiced with their parents and has been in existence long before you were born; for that reason, you must come home unless you want to go against a tradition that has been in existence before you were born.
They will keep singing it in your ear until you have a change of heart. This year I spent my Christmas away from them, and it has not been easy for me. I just had to make sure they all they say don't get to me; more like I prepared for this ahead of time since I know how they would react to the news that I was not going to come back home for Christmas. Every morning when I speak to my mom, she laments how she wished we spent Christmas as one big family like we always do. Even though I wanted to spend my Christmas with family, I had to stay back in my base for some personal reasons.
I won't lie. I spent my Christmas completely alone, and it has been the most boring Christmas of my life. Many of my neighbors here traveled home, and the apartment was almost empty, leaving me and just a few people I don't really associate with. Since I was celebrating Christmas alone, the usual preparation I see at home was not seen this year, no steaming white rice, no stew, no salad, no preparation was done at all. I spent most of the day indoors, and in the evening I went to a nearby bar where I spent most of the evening and went back home when I was tired of sitting and drinking. Maybe next year we will get to spend Christmas with family.
