What is good folks so everyone is talking about AI taking the jobs like it is some distant ghost story but you look around and the robots are already clocking in and not asking for a lunch break eh. It is wild seeing people scramble to protect their 9 to 5 when the math just does not add up anymore because once the cost of a GPU cluster is less than your salary and benefits you are cooked and that is just the reality of it. We are hitting this point where deep automation is not just for making cars or flipping burgers it is coming for the white collar stuff too and the creative stuff which is kind of a trip because we always thought the artists were safe.

So then you get the UBI talk and usually I am the first one to call out a handout because I believe in the grind and having some skin in the game but we are looking at a future where the game might just be closed for business for a lot of people. If the productivity of the entire planet is being driven by code and servers that the average person has no hope of owning then what are we doing here exactly. You can not have a consumer economy if nobody has the scrap to buy the stuff the bots are making and that is where the whole system just eats itself.

I am thinking about it like a server node maintenance cost for society because if you do not keep the hardware running the whole network crashes and right now the humans are the hardware that is being left to rust. It is not even about being nice or some soft hearted charity thing it is just pragmatism at this point because a world with 50 percent unemployment and no floor is just a recipe for a real messy situation. We need a way to decouple survival from the traditional grind since the traditional grind is getting automated out of existence by some dev in a basement or a massive data center in the desert.

The trick is how you fund the thing without the government just printing us into a hole because we already saw how that movie ends with inflation nuking everyone's purchasing power. You gotta tax the compute or the automation directly instead of the labor because labor is becoming a legacy feature like a floppy disk or dial up internet. It is gonna be a rough transition and plenty of sleaze balls are gonna try to gatekeep the tech but we gotta start looking at UBI as a baseline utility for living in a world where the machines do the heavy lifting while we just try to stay sane and maybe stack some assets on the side so we are not totally dependent on the state.
